    Taps 3 recall

I received a call from my dealer yesterday letting me know that there is a recall on some Taps 3 plates. Mine falls within the recall serial numbers. They ordered the new plates and they'll switch out when I take it in for winterization and storage. They said the issue happens under load and it may or may not affect all boats. My boat is an 18 that I've had for three weeks. You guys with new boats might want to contact your dealer and check with them if you haven't been notified yet.

It's the Lenco actuators. Not the plates. There were a bunch that were incurring water due to seal that was changed by Lenco unbeknownst to Tige. From pics I've seen I would say it's the wiper seal on piston/rod that's been changed. So now there are gen2 and gen3 actuators. Those with affected serials will be taken care of. At least everyone has an answer.

Just said that there was failure under heavy loads and Lenco was sending replacements. My plates are within the serial numbers given. Appreciate my dealer giving me the heads up.

I asked him that freeheel and he said it was not the actuators but the plates. I guess I wont know exactly until I get it to him in the fall. It does sound like Tige is on top of it.

Tige has seen broken plates. However aren't they in house or built specifically for Tige and not a lanco supplied component?

It's not plates, like I posted before it's a lenco seal
                Issue.

When he said it was the plates, I thought that issue was resolved early on in TAPS 3 history and should not involve a new boat.

Some of the early plates had a habit of breaking. IIUC they beefed them up early on and it has not been a problem since.

Actuators make more sense this late in the game. I would think if they get water intrusion, then pretty much everyone affected will have a broken or seized actuator by spring.

Hey elevated, was there a problem on the 17's? I seem to have to be at a higher setting to get the same wave I used to get at 4-5 on taps 3. Now it's more like 8-10 range.

                      Chris,

Lanco has had leaking actuator issues since Malibu released surf gate, long before Tige TAPS-3. As stated in another thread, not a new issue, just new to Tige with the inception of TAPS-3.

Doesn't make a tonnof sense as lower taps3 #s equate to more tab deployment so your wave should be flatter and have less push if boat is being weighted evenly and you are moving up in taps3 #s. At leasy what i would expect. Would get those #s you are trying to throw some list in the mix though. Seems odd, as you are retracting your tab to get a better wake.

The ones on my 17 are on the recall list but I haven't had any issues.

There's lots of HINs that fall into the list that haven't been affected with actuator issues. Can't even begin to theorize why. Only guess would be the way water is converging at transom and forcing water in, but we have an r23e out there thats been trouble free compared to the z3s (same running surface)
We have had two z3s though that have fought us all summer. One owner has been super calm, almost to a fault. If I was on the hook for a 100k I certainly wouldn't be as calm as he's been, but its certainly nice not to have an upset customer. The other is making some noise. Don't blame him at all. Sucks from our end as this is his first Tige and he custom ordered a z3 and was talking about moving to an RZX. Don't see that happening this year with the summer he's had. C'est la vie.

yeah the recall is for the actuators themselves.
