    2008 z1 engine question

Hey guys! I am new to the boating world (almost) I am buying my first boat. A 2008 tige z1 with 44 hours. When I Had a race car, the forum was the place for me. I am hoping all you guys/gals can help me out with my boat the way I was helped with my car. So I am going to pick this boat up this weekend. I know nothing about boats. I was told it was the 340hp marine power motor which came standard with this model, however after looking at some picture of other z1 the engine cover seems different. It is black and says marine power onone side. The others I have seen are gray and say 340hp and some orange writing. Can someone help me out. Tyia

Also, sorry if this is in the wrong spot.

Ok, so after more research I see it is the vortec marine power engine. Is this still 340hp or is this the 320 version?

        Is it carburetor or EFI?

It's the same GM 5.7 block as far as I know. I've got the gray cover on my 07 22VE with the MP 340HP and a buddy had a new 5.7 vortex in his 06 20V and it looked pretty much identical to me except for the top cover.

IIRC, the 320 and 340 were both offered in 08. Hard to tell by looking if the cowl is gone. They are both the same engine, just different HP tune. Cowl stated the HP. Would need to contact Tige or the original selling dealer with the HID and see what it was built with.

What are you looking to do with the boat? Surf? Wakeboard? Slalom?

Well, I just committed to buying the boat. I am going to pick it up on Monday or Tuesday. If any of you are near Lake Anna VA and want to help me check it out one last time before I hand over the check I would greatly appreciate it. This is my first boat purchase. I believe it is the 320hp model, Fuel Injected. This shouldn't matter too much as it will primarily be used for a family boat with a push towards wake/surf. based on the research that I have done it seems to be a pretty good engine. It is the Vortec Marine Power. The sales guy told me it was 340hp but on the purchase order it says 320. Should I try and take 1000 off the price for this? Or are they roughly the same price and value?

Ill word it this way, the price should reflect the 320HP. Whether that warrants any further price reduction, depends on the current price and how it stacks up to the going market and boats condition.

Ive driven a loaded 22ve with the 340 and stock prop. Not an issue for you IMO.

Yes apparently the boat just sat on the lift. Is replacing the impeller a sign that something went wrong? Apparently they just replaced the impeller.

Should be replaced every other year.

Its a consumable maintenance item that should be replaced at intervals. They can fail, allowing the engine to overheat, resulting in the need for replacement.

It's got so few hours that the engine has not been well lubricated for most of its life. What you gain in decreased interior wear might be lost in things that deteriorate with time. The starter and alternator actually work better when used regularly, for example.
