Set of Taps 3 plates for sale

Hey guys, wanted to put this here first. Looks like I am going to have a brand new set of taps 3 plates for sale if anyone is contemplating a retrofit. They are a factory brand new set with no issues. Actuators are the only thing needed if retrofitting a 15+. If older, some switches etc.

Should be fine to use. You would just need to adjust actuator for the correct angle in regards to taps 3 vs wakemakers tabs.

Last I checked, GSA wont sell just the controller. There are a few other options though, with or without GPS control. Check out wakegarage.com. There's a few projects on there that use both systems.

Heck, you can rig up some Lenco actuators to a polarity reversing switch (I used the ones that come with ballast puppy pumps because I have a bunch in my box) and run em that way. You just have to learn to hear the actuator as when it reaches end of stroke current starts to go up if you keep switch on. Have rerofittied two older boats that didn't want to drop the coin on new modules up in this way. Used a 15A pop out style breaker so if current did go high you have circuit protection and don't have to carry a pile of fuses. Only talked to one of the owners since it's been done and says it works fine. Only downfall is you won't have sender/gauge, but feel any good boat operator can overcome this and knows how to feel his boat and read trim changes in his/her wake. Cheap and easy solution to the problem is my point.
I'm sure IDboating could even weigh in on a way to rig up a sender and gauge as it sounds like he has lots of experience going down this road.

Right now there's really no 100% good way to know the position of your Lenco trim tab. Everything right now is based on time from switch on to switch off. As you can imagine, running your tab out of water has no load so the actuator spins faster. So holding a switch for 2 seconds might get you 1 inch of rod travel. Now imagine cruising along at surf speed and hitting the switch for 2 seconds. The load of water on the tab slows the actuator down so now it may only travel 1/2 inch. Now you wonder why your wave looks different all the time even though the led's indicate your tab is in the position you always put it in.
Lenco needs to fit a potentiometer inside the actuator that would simply measure rod travel. It would be 100% accurate all the time. I wouldn't think it would be that hard to do.

The load has no bearing on rod travel Josh, its why the actuators have a PSI rating. They work at the same speed regardless of load up until that rating cap.

This is absolutely incorrect. I promise that the load on the actuator has a definite effect on its speed. So does the voltage applied, which affects current through the motor. This is why you get different distances traveled in the same time depending upon whether the engine is running (higher voltage from alternator) or not (lower voltage from battery). When you introduce both variables at the same time (load and/or engine running or not), it's easy to understand why the screen percentages can be off by 10's of percent when based solely on time.

We've captured many hours of actuator behavior here, tracking voltage and current and travel under varying load conditions. Neither Lenco nor Bennett Bolt actuators are "constant speed" regardless of load.

I stand corrected. I was told the opposite from Lenco in regards to the XD short throw and tiger system. Maybe I'm confusing the question, tiges system CS only be ran with the motor running at a certain speed. I do trust you more then lenco though Id .

Does Tige base the movements via taps 3 solely on time? Or are there other factors?

I would suspect Tige to use an actuator with a position sensor, as they have for years with the TAPS. Position is based on a more physical feedback rather than a timed feedback thats voltage sensitive as IDB explained.

TAPS was originally based on a Bennett hydraulic actuator, which has a position sensor. I don't know what they use on TAPS3 these days, but I am not aware of an electric actuator with an integral position sensor. I have asked both Lenco and Bennett why they don't do this, since it's so obvious and (in Bennett's case) they're **already doing it** on their hydraulic systems, but I've never gotten a straight answer.

Malibu has moved to an integrated electro-hydraulic actuator made by Parker Hydraulics that contains the cylinder, a small electrically-driven hydraulic pump, and a separate position sensor. They are quite expensive, as you might imagine, compared to a standalone electric or hydraulic actuator. But this highlights just how important the industry recognizes accurate positioning is. Very odd that the actuator companies don't respond, eh?

It does seem odd that they dont incorporate a position sensor in the electric ones. i dont the means of making actuator actuate, effecting the use of a position sensor. I wonder if the use of the electric units for a fully deployed/fully retracted application is still small and large boats with trim tabs are still using the hydro units with position sensors. No way an off shore twin, trip or quad screw can rely on an inaccurate time based position to set their tabs. Those guys are as anal about their setups as surfers. They know speed, trim tab, engine trim and jack plate height for different water conditions.
