Z3 wave is fantastic with 800 lead in back. Trying for anything more than that is kind of a diminishing gains thing. Esp if a nice, low hr Z3 with TAPS3 can be had for $40k less than a new RZX. RZX has more storage....although if you adding PNP then you kinda lose the storage as well

2016 Z3 with 800 lbs lead and a tractor prop is one of the best bang for buck surf machines out there.

My vx z3 with up graded ballast and 200 lbs of lead to me has a better wave then taps 3. The shape of the 2 waves are completely different. No way would I want to run 800 lbs of lead. I want to be able to dump weight and use the boat for other activities.

Can you expand on this? I have a pretty awesome wave with my Z1 Vx and I am considering a TAPS3 upgrade. However I don't know anyone around these parts with a TAPS3 boat! I'm curious how you based your assessment that the Vx is better.

I honestly can't see how a TAPS3 boat could be any better than the wave I have now. I am at the limits of what my prop and engine can handle.

IMHO the rzx2 should surf better than a z3, no questions asked. They really shouldn't even be considered in the same category.

Johnny what year z1? I have surfed a z1 with vx and abc and the wakes where both great! I have surfed a taps 3 z3 and the wave is good. The key to me is the shapes of the waves are completely different. Vx wave stacks up imedialty off the back of the boat. Taps 3 boat the ramp up is a lot more shuttle and takes longer to build height further back. Push on a taps 3 boat is great though. Listed z doesn't have as hard of a push but the wave shape in my opinion is better.

2013 Tige Z1 Vx. Evenly weighted. About 800 per side in the back and 400 per side up front with suck gate. I am 275lbs and it throws me around. I did surf a factory RZX2 and had a hard time staying with the boat. I don't attribute that to the boat, but rather to the dealer rep who wasn't familiar with how to set it up.

To me this all comes down to mass. The more mass, the bigger the wave. The shape of the wave really depends on the hull and various contraptions attached to that hull to route the water where you want it.

I'm not sure about what wave is better as far as the Zs and RZXs. My RZ4 wave with AVX, tige surf ballast, and Mission Delta is awesome. But I'm switching to taps3 for convenience and resale value. I've seen a taps3 Z3, not surfed, and the wave looked just fine. IMO taps3 when properly tweaked will produce a wave that will work for 90% of people.

Ok if you have gen one vx angle you need to try and see if you can get the updated brackets. You need about 1000 lbs in the nose and you need the wake 9 or make makers rear sacks. Also the wake 9 taps plate helps as well. With those items and running listed your wave should be great. At 275 you need to have the right board for you. That's tricky I'd talk to nick and see if he can custom make you something to help keep you at speed.

Here is a video of a buddy riding a Victoria skim. He has no issues staying in the pocket. He was working on 360s in this video. In this video it was all water. No lead. And 2 people in the boat

I have all those things. Gen 2 brackets. Wake9 bags. Wake9 TAPS plate. Big boy boards. As I said - I'm not having issues. I am thrilled with the wave. However I am just trying to assess if TAPS3 would be superior to the current setup. I think I could also go for an even more aggressive prop and bring the ballast up a bit further. Right now I am at the top of what my EX343 and 1433 can provide.

Running listed with the 1300 on the surf side provides an inferior wave to that of evenly weighted with a suck gate. I have plenty of video evidence on my YouTube channel to support that.

I apologize for taking this off track. I just wanted to know if anyone has directly compared an optimized AVx/Vx boat to a TAPS3 setup. Apples to apples. You declared that your Vx wave is better than TAPS3 and I wanted some validation of that.

In my opinion it is. I would not upgrade to a taps 3 z3 over my current set up. Now a rzx taps 3 maybe but I haven't been behind one yet.

And to be clear, you are saying a listed boat with a Vx is superior to a TAPS3 setup? If that's what you are saying, I highly suggest you try a suck gate.

For my tastes yes that's what I am saying. There is more lip to the wave for airs. I have ridden a avx with mission delta and it was great too. However it was also great with out the mission. I will say with multiple surfers on the boat the mission is nice.
