    21V Engine Cover

I Believe that the "newer" model 21V's (2000, 2001) had a carpeted engine cover. This was on top of the Engine but underneath the top Vinyled engine hatch. I have seen pictures of these before but cant find them. Does anyone have a picture of theirs and how it rest over the engine?

I have 1999 21V that didn't come with this and am thinking about making one for two purposes

    1) I am hoping that a cover that is carpeted will help decrease some of the engine noise in the boat. I spend a lot of time on a friends 2000 Malibu and his engine compartment is sealed up a lot better and the boat quitter when running. I know one way to help reduce noise is putting a FAE on but that's not in the budget right now.

    2) it would limit some of the water dropping on the engine. we have a lot of kids that are always jumping off of the back hatch's and dripping water. The engine cover would push the water into the port and starboard locker and not drip on the engine. Which probably isn't that big of a deal but seems like it would be a good thing to do.

    Thanks!

My 99 had the fiberglass panel on the underside. I had the locker doors and engine cover boards replaced this year because the screws were stripping by out of the hinges. These doors are very unique. They are a fiberglass coats she'll with a plywood insert, and the white fiberglass piece that covers the underside is firmly mounted into the door itself.. I had mine replaced with 3/4" marine grade plywood. They are NOT as strong and have more give than I care for. I would not try to mess with these unless you absolutely have to...

Cubby_Z ya I'm not trying to replace the actual engine hatch your speaking of. I am trying to find pictures of "insert" engine cover that is separate from the engine hatch. I actually found 1 picture online of what the top looks like now I'm looking for the bottom side or how it mounts.

I believe if I can build one of these or something similar and if I can I think it will cut down on the engine noise.

It has two small pieces that act as a groove so the cover will rest on the divider wall.

I gotcha, that's pretty sweet.m, and looks like a winter project for me now. Plus, for me, it may add some additional support for the locker doors that I mentioned above.

I wouldn't say it is the prettiest thing but once I carpet it, it shouldn't look all to shabby. The real question is will it dampen any of the engine noise? We shall see

You aren't wasting anytime! I do think that with the added enclosure, you will need to give your blower more time to evacuate vapor from the fuel before starting and possibly run the blower at idle and slower speeds. Let me know how well it dampens engine noise and does it have any impact on engine temp? I am intrigued...

I was out this afternoon for a couple hours. I haven't carpeted it yet and it seemed like dampened the noise but I'm not a 100% sure. I think the carpet will help that and I plan on putting carpet or noise dampening material around the back seat base and walls.

The temp was the same no change and it was a hot afternoon for us sitting at around 97degrees.

I'll let you know if I see a change in temp and update with some more pictures after carpeted

I did like that it kept water off the engine. Not sure if that really matters but seems like a good thing.

Lee so the walls on top of the cover touch the under side of the engine hatch when the hatch is closed?

Sounds good! Do you have other pictures of your boat? I just had mine wet sanded, removed some graphics, and replaced the carpet with SeaDek...New tower coming soon

No, the channel is on the under side of the wood piece that you made. The channels would slide down over the divider walls and are only 1" deep.
