I had an Indmar sea strainer installed on my boat this summer. Can it be used instead of a fake a lake? I'm wanting to run my boat on the trailer but I don't have a fake a lake.

I bought a piece of hose and that will fit the strainer inlet and a garden hose connection from Home Depot. I simply remove the strainer inlet hose, replace it with mine and I'm good to go. I use the hose valve to control pressure until I get the engine started.IMG_2050.jpgIMG_2052.jpg

Yes, you can hook up hose to indmar strainer. As stated above be sure to close thru hull. Also I would have a second person to turn on hose as you start the boat. Haven't had it happen on an Indmar but I have blown apart a perko strainer that had a flush port installed upstream of it.
Missed z1's post but he addressed pressure issue in a very clever way.

At same time or even guy on hose just before you start cranking....but that's getting pretty anal. An impeller isn't going to cook itself immediately if it's spun dry, but obviously not the goal though. Usually impeller housing stores water regardless from last time it's run on water, unless boat has been laid up a long time(think about last time you changed your impeller, you most likely had water come out when you cracked the bolts loose)
If you are super particular, have buddy crack hose and watch strainer fill with water, start as soon as you see water in strainer and have buddy turn up hose.Last edited by freeheel4life; 07-25-2017, 02:50 AM.

Another alternative is to use a bucket with the hose in the bucket.
This contraption only cost me ~$15 for the hose and barb. The nice thing is that it allows me to temporarily run past 2500 rpm without starving the engine of water.
