    RZ2 with a suckgate

I was wondering how much weight the RZ2 guys are running with a suckgate. I made one the other day and just gave it a quick try earlier today. Tried filling both rear sacs and a little in the front. With 4 adults and 4 Kids in the boat I was surprised how hard the boat had to work to get to surf speed. Can't say I was really excited about the wave I got either. It was long but not very clean and had almost a double lip kinda thing going on. I didn't get to surf it, the wind was starting to get nasty and the kids were hungry so we went in for lunch.

So I was wondering what you guys were doing or what I should try when I get back out later today.

Spent a couple hours tonight messing around with the ballast and taps and moving the gate around a bit. I just can't seem to get a good wave out of it. I keep getting this weird line in the face of the wave that's not there when I list the boat like normal. And once I get it looking half decent it has no push. In the end I pulled it off and just weighted the boat like normal. Probably do some more messing around with it tomorrow and see if I can get it figured out.

not sure what year and if you have a VX or not but I have a Rz2 '14 w/vx and the Mission Delta, run 1400 surf side and 1200 non surf + both front tanks full, suck gate as far back (the suck gate plate is as far back (have it reversed) as the back of the boat and as low as possible) and my wave is twice as long, massive amount of push and we can surf 25'+ back from the swim platform with ease and tons of push. I run a1235 prop, taps at 4 and 10.8mph. with full gas and 5 or 6 adults I can get my speeds up into the 11'ish mph but I also run the 350hp engine and I can't imagine it was designed to push 5,000 (boat)+ 3,400 (ballast) + 1500 (people) = 9800lbs so I'm not complaining. Is my wave perfectly clean, no but I haven't worked on cleaning it up but from what I understand to do that you need to redo your swim platform and a bigger taps plate.

        RZ2 with a suckgate

We've been chasing the look of an RZ4 wave for a while and the better it looks the worse it rides. So who cares how it looks as long as you can blast airs off of it and ride back for days!!!!

Mines an 07. Probably 1050lbs or a little more in each rear locker and 500ish up front. Marine power 340 engine with a 1235 prop. I was able to get to my normal surf speeds but the boat wasn't happy about it. Swim platform is a homemade one that's as small as I can make it without cutting the factory brackets. Never heard of a different taps plate for mine.

I started last night with everything full then slowly let weight out of the offside in between runs. The best riding wave I could get was surf side full, offside about half, front at 3/4, and taps at 5. Didn't have much push but it was ok. Hopefully I'll get to experiment some more today, but the lake looks pretty crowded so I might find a quiet spot and do some fishing instead.

Corey Rutherford on FB Tige Owners group sells custom taps plates for most models. I've heard the RZ2/4 don't like as much bow weight as the V/VE.

Not sure what suck gate you're running but having a 45-50 degree slope sure helps with drag over the gates that are 80-90 degrees. I hardly feel my home made jobby on my boat. 1235 prop in Denver.

Mines a pretty similar design to that. Maybe slightly less angle but not much. I dont think it's the suckgate causing drag that's giving me issues. Maybe I just have to get over that the boat is working way harder than I'm used to. What are you running for weight? The 22ve should be a pretty similar hull to my boat.

If I do get out today I'll try to get a few pics of the wave from in the boat and behind it.

Yea, RZ2 and 22VE have identical hulls. At least mine and yours do being 07's.
With the gate I'm at 1000 surf side, 7-800 other side and guessing about 350-400 bow. Speed 11.4 Taps 3-4 depending on which side you're surfing. Usually have 5-6 people on board.
I've noticed the gated wave has less push than my listed wave, it does make the sweet spot a little longer though. I personally prefer the listed wave but for ease of switching sides the gate is sweet.

Thanks, sounds like what your running is pretty close to what I found worked ok last night. So far I also prefer the listed wave, but that might change with more messing around. I was really hoping to ease up the switch overs as well. My wife rides goofy and I'm regular.

At least you have speed set

2008 RZ2: custom suckgate, modified swim platform, 800lbs each locker, 400lbs on port seat (want to upgrade to the custom port sack), 400lbs of lead in bow, high altitude prop, TAPS2 setting 3-4, surf speed at 10.8 to 11 for beginners and 11-11.6 for advanced riders. 95% port side surfing, the starboard side is a little too steep for my liking. It obtains the best wake with 4-5 adults onboard and slightly listed so the top of the surfgate is just breaking the plane of the water. If I don't plane out good in choppy water with a lot of weight, I drop the taps to zero let it plane then set back to 3-4.
If I'm not surfing, I'm making money to surf.
