    Exhaust stinky smell

    Hi everyone,
I was wondering something for couple weeks now. I noticed that my boat smell real trash sometimes coming from the exhaust. Not smelling when surfing behind but in the boat when I put it on idle when the surfer falls for example.
Steam is normal with raptor engine but it doesn't seems to come from the steam.
Couple first weekend I was saying to myself that's probably cause of the winter and some smeel of corrupt water or liquid in the boat and gonna be ok after few rides. But still smell so maybe it's the blidge! Some water keep staying there so I pay attention to really empty the blidge correctly with bow rise before and after I use my boat. But still smell sometimes. It's weird because it's not always. Maybe because of the wind direction when we don't smell it but sometimes it can smell a day long each time we stop the boat and sometimes no smell at all. This week I had the chance to ride few boats and that's why I question myself because non of these boats had FAE and different engine (ri217, Moomba craz, rzx2, 22vlx) the craz have the same engine as mine (differently geared but same block) and really never smell anything. Was seating in the back to make sure to have some smell like mine but doesn't happen haha..
Is it me that paranoid or other have the same issue if it's one?
    Thanks

I am curious about this also.. We have the raptor also and notice the same smell you describe under the same situations.. not at cruising, not when surfing, but when we idle after a surfer falls is when it is most noticeable.. hopefully someone has some insight on this.

I know it is late in the year, but are you running fuel from last season yet? I had posted about smelling exhaust with our FAE. It was our first time out and a member pointed out that old gas will have a stank to it compared to fresh fuel.

Hah! My '16 z3 does this with the Raptor. I've nicknamed the boat Dog Fart! I usually only get the scent when throwing it in reverse for a second or two after a rider falls and the first set of waves have rolled by.
I've filled the tank (from pretty much empty ~35 gallons) with 91 non Ethanol, and still have the same odor. Also using FAE in attempt to drive the smell further into the water, but noticed no difference. Is this a Tige thing, or a Raptor thing?

Exact same thing with my '16 Z3, except I don't have the FAE. Funny thing is that it doesn't happen all of the time.

It sounds like the smell everyone is referring to is like the smell of rotten eggs or sulphur smell. Rotten egg smell is from unburned fuel during the combustion and being burned in the cat itself. The fact you can smell it means the converter is working. It happens when surfing and the engine is loaded and the surfer falls so we immediately bring the engine to an idle and then we smell the unburned fuel from the convertor. My 2016 does the same thing.

I would guess it is an Indmar/Raptor thing more so than a Tige thing.

It happens on every engine. The best way to stop this is when the surfer falls release throttle slowly down to idle so the engine can burn the fuel correctly instead of having the engine loaded and slamming it to idle. If our boats didn't have cats on them we would smell raw fuel so either way the engine needs to burn the fuel correctly to prevent the smell.

If they were tuned by mass air flow a lot of that would be gone.
