100k is never nothing, however it is a great buy given what that boat is priced at etc. Thats a 120k boat.... all day everyday.

That is not the same boat. The used RZX2 that we currently have for sale is on consignment due to a family health issue that arose this past summer.

It took about five minutes in Jason's boat at mead to know I want one of these. Besides the high cost the only downside I could see, well hear, was how crazy loud the engine is while sitting in the boat under way. Hopefully the engine bay is not already insulated and that's all it would take to make it more comfortable.
I put my boat up for sale this week. Maybe I'll get lucky. So far two scammers have expressed interest!

Josh had a blast having you two out. That 17 that is on consignment is one hell of a buy that you likely wont see again and it would be something I would jump on personally.

Also keep in mind, the boat was loud because we were running pnp with nothing really in the bow at around 3600RPM, that boat with bow weight is pretty quiet around the 3200 range. I just had lead out for the event and the windy conditions.

Well that's good news, I guess. But I'm used to my boat that runs HARD all day long. Rarely under 4000 rpms, even on an easy pull such as my daughter that you saw surf. My boat is library quiet compared to the rzx. I've been prepping my wife for the noise in case we get a chance to get her in the one here. It could be a deal breaker if it can't be remidied.
                      Thanks for the pull.

The noise level on these boats is quite louder than some of the older V-drive boats no doubt. I THINK I have figured out the noise level.

Look at the "older" V-drive boats they have the center motor hatch which is vinyl with padding which helps reduce engine noise. They also usually have carpeted dividers around the motor bay which also reduces sound. Then additionally the floor depending on the boat you may have carpet flooring which also reduces sound. All of these things combined with a FAE make for a super quiet boat. My old Ve had all of the above w/ FAE, and we could have a normal level conversation at 35mph or could talk to the rider with ease.

The new boats are louder yes, but as Elevated and I have talked about there could be a few was to insulate the motor bay to reduce engine noise. The new boats have the center walk through which is essentially a plastic tray that just rest over the motor so there is nothing but 1/8" plastic to reduce sound. Then move over to the engine dividers and Tige did a great job going to plastic dividers that have slots that really beef up the partition for running ballast, the down side is plastic doesn't dampen sound there either. Dynamat would go along way (we think) to reducing the engine noise in the boat. That being said there are a few things we need to consider before going that route:
                        1. Heat yes they are closed loop cooled, but excessive engine heat will degrade performance.
                        2. Air- These Raptors take a ton of air to give good performance, if we start sealing gaps in the motor bay to reduce sound we start limiting the flow of air into motor bay. (Yes there are vents on the side, but those lead into the lockers and we are talking about sealing the partitions as well so that kind eliminates that idea)
                        3. Transmission/Flooring- On my Z3 the entire center floor lifts up to reveal, fuel cell, trans, V-Drive. This entire floor area is fiberglass, A few layers of Dynamat will definitely quiet down the trans noise and some engine noise.
                        4. Fit and Finish- The partitions have slots they slide into and bump up against the top support beam, which means only ballast side of the partition could be covered and because it has slots on the sides that it rest in, it cant be completely covered or it likely wont fit in the slots anymore. The motor hatch cover is probably going to be the easiest to do and could probably do multiple layers.

I am just spit-ballin' but pretty sure it will quiet things down as long as we document the results. Both for noise, and performance loss (if any).
My life's journey is not ending up looking pretty, its sliding in broadside, used up, worn out, screaming "What a Ride"

Most of the noise in my friends RZX seems to come from the floor--above the V drive. Removing the waste can down there makes it REALLY loud. I would focus in that area for sure.

Not sure how feasible it is to spray the partitions and underside of engine cover, but MasCoast offers some great products in their LizardSkin line of automotive coatings. I used the ceramic insulation on my home brewery kettles and was very impressed how well it reduced heat transfer. I can hold my hand on a 15 gal kettle full of boiling liquid for over 10 seconds.

They offer a sound insulation coating as well: http://www.lizardskin.com/sound-control-insulation.html

The Raptors are loud. I've been contemplating a FAE for our RZX2 with the 440 just to quiet it down a bit.

The raptor is loud in the upper rpm range. Most motors are building power much earlier in the rpm range. With that being said, my boat specifically is very quiet with bow weight and the correct prop. It will most likely always be louder then most older boats however.

Boat that's louder, or a boat that you can expose the entire motor to work on etc.... literally the whole rear of the boat opens completely up. I think Tige chose the latter. Boat isn't that loud to me, I could be use to it though.
