I have a 97 2002WT and with TAPs, I would say it rivals some new model boats with ballasts. I can throw a massive surf wake, and enough wakeboard to do w2w and other medium jump tricks. Throw in a couple of sacs, or a fat bench, and you have a really good boat with a really good wake. There is no way to make no wake in the "no wake" areas. It's not a brick wall, like an X-Star, but it is really good for about 1/3 the price. I find my boat to be really good in chop too for a "ski" boat. This TAPs system is electric pump driven hydraulic actuators. I do not think mine has ever been serviced, and it still works great. It is also a simple enough setup that it could be repaired/refirbed if required. I think the 96 TAPs was a toggle on the dash, whereas the next year they went to a throttle trim type unit.
Those boats also had the limited lifetime warranties on hulls. Of course it probably will not apply to you, but it was there at one time. Many of the build features of the current models were the same then.
BTW be prepared to drop about $350 in gauges once you get it. The VDO factory ones are about as crappy as they get. I sent numerous messages to some Tige' dealers, but apparently they don't like making money from parts sales. I still cannot get a response on a stainless bezeled TAPs gauge. It is all I am lacking.
The only issues I have had (I have only had mine this summer) so far:
Speedo pickups clogging
Gauges cracking-redoing some pisspoor wiring
Motor (5.7 merc ski/tourn) burns some oil (what small block doesn't)
Fuel gauge bounces alot (most boats do)
Some places in the compartments the glue is beginning to get old, needs redoing. Mostly on the small trim areas.
Also be aware that is is near impossible to tell the models apart from far away pictures like the above, as all the paint, and hulls are very similar. The larger boat (2100) had a slight bit of difference in the rear of the hull. Those have sort of an angle down to the swim platform, the smaller boats are almost a right angle. They also have some minor differences on the vinyl, like a swoosh instead of the symetrical color highlights, and vinyl sides on the walkthrough instead of carpet. You can see the edge of the black carpet below, and the white vinyl on the walkthrough with a pocket on the other.
Symetrical Vinyl - Flat rear slope
This one doesnt have the swooshy vinyl- angled rear
Maybe that wasn't until '97?
