How fast do you go when surfing and what is the easiest way to get up? I am going to buy a board and try to learn before summer is over. Also, any recommendations on boards?

We usually go about 9 to 12 mph and start out with rope off the tower about 6 feet behind the swim step , ride the board like a kneeboard and then stand up and when the board starts to move with the wake and the line goes limp we toss it to some one in the boat. We have used landlock style of boards and 6 foot long surf boards.

We ride around 10mph, like FIC, with TAPS at 4 (22Ve, no ballast). We pull up just like wakeboardin. put your heels on the edge of the surf, when the boat is put in gear, the board will 'flip up' against your feet, at that piont the driver hits it. We got one of the store bought ropes, right lenght, t-handle, big knots to hold on to.

To answer your questions, the best resource on surfing is www.howtowakesurf.com. As for a board, one of the easiest boards to learn on is a Hyperlite Landlock.Last edited by dogbert; 09-04-2006, 05:59 PM.Cursed by a fortune cookie: "Your principles mean more to you than any money or success."

Your 23V is reported to have the baddest surf wake out there!
Even with that, you will want as much weight as you can get on that side. There is no such thing as too much weight, it is like having too much money or being too good looking (I think there is a country song like that).
I second dogbert's rec for www.howtowakesurf.com. I learned a lot there.
Be careful, because once you get the feel of wakesurfing, you will definitely get addicted. As I get more mature, the wakeboarding crashes hurt more and more, going 11.5 (that is what seems to work for my setup) is a lot softer on the bones.Be excellent to one another.

I agree, wakeboard wipeouts hurt a lot more than slalom wipeouts. My favorite is the eye peeler or nostril enema. I am excited to try the wake surfing and for the slower speeds!

Also, just look for the posts from Surfdad, he's got the same boat as you and really knows what he's doing. There's lots of discussion on weighting boats and how to get started. If you do find yourself doing it a lot, get an FAE.Cursed by a fortune cookie: "Your principles mean more to you than any money or success."
