MP 6.0L problem fixed by dealer

I have a 2005 24V and had engine stalling problems recently with a MP 6.0L with about 100hrs. My dealer (Skiers Wharf Extreme at Lake of Ozarks) told me that it is a well known problem with the fuel system heating up and causing vapor locks.

The service manager and owner both said that they have had many problems with the 6.0 but the 5.7L was solid.

I asked (just once) if an engine swap could be done. The owner said they would call Marine Power. Within a couple of weeks they had it done. To say the least that is very impressive.

I am a couple of hours away from the dealer and had a chance to get there today. The new motor looks great and there is a lot more room for air flow. They will also be replacing the prop to match the new engine.

The problem has been fixed and I have a fresh engine with a new warranty.

It has been said many times on this forum that the dealer makes all the difference. Obviously I have not been happy with the problems that have occurred with this new boat, but my dealer has been there for me. And in this case, in a big way...

So you went from a 6.0 to a 5.7 enigine. Just out of curiosity Did you get any money back since you paid for a 6.0 and now have a 5.7?

I was wondering if someone would ask this question. To true the truth, I don't know what the upgrade cost was. I didn't get an itemized list of upgrade costs. This was a boat on the dealer's lot and we just started dealing on the whole package.

Good on you. I am glad that your dealer stepped up.

I thought that I wanted the 6.0 motor when I was looking for a boat, but now I am glad that I have the 5.7

Let us know how much different your boat is with the less hp.
I to wanted the 6.0 but went with the 5.7

If memory serves, the upcharge was in the neighborhood of 3 or 4 grand... Like Zany, I was thinking of going that direction as well...but quite honestly have been very satisfied with the 340hp. Haven't come across any situation where I wish I had another 60 horsepower... As to Gmans question...I suspect it is just as the old saying goes... It is what it is...

Glad you got the swap and good job to the dealer for making a very happy customer...

Yeah, I would imagine that labor hours on a motor swap are not cheap.

Won't have a chance to get on the water this weekend, but will next.

I briefly mentioned in the original post about there being more room in the engine bay. Didn't realize until I saw the 5.7L in there how much space the 6.0L took up. No wonder there was problems with the fuel system over heating, there just wasn't any room for air flow.

                          Hey this is weird!

At 108 Hours mine just started to vapor lock as well.

At Havai I noticed that at 4,000 RPM and plus after a few minutes its locks goes down to idle.

Then I can return to any RPM below 4,000 with no problem.

But when I hit 4,000 or better it locks.

It was only 104 at Havasu when this happened!

I want more power not less.

And Tige dealers have ZERO experience with the 6's which is sad.

At Corona, which is a large dealer, mine was the only one sold in ‘06.

Guess I have to go with a Bu on the next boat.

Yeah...that'll show them!! As has been said many a time, you will have a problem with any boat. You need to pick the dealer that will take care of you when you have problems.

This looks like a design issue.
