Crazy how the slight change in hull has made a difference, I keep giving the 2 more weight and she keeps getting better.....

Elevated--still say the 3 is the better surf boat?

Ill take the 2 any day of the week and twice on sunday, especially given Rag saying the 3 at some point quit getting better. I have had a 3 with about the same weight in it as him and not much more (lack of time). My only reasoning to go 3 would be the difference in top cap allowing the boat to sink deeper, if rag says the boat quits producing at a certain weight then the 2 further separates itself in my eyes . I like the three, I just think the 2 is more refined in hull shape, it just works. I havent had it stop getting better with the more and more weight I have tossed in it, just becomes a safety and motor issue. Put it this way, my boat just sold, and when I had the choice of what boat to get that is (Currently on the line) I went 2 with the new trans.

Well, when I say it didn't get better, that is something that is also very subjective. I added up to 300 lbs of lead/extra weight in the front, and then after that, I felt like anymore was not going to be very safe, unless we were in glass conditions with no one on the lake.

My personal feeling about setting up boats, is that you find the balance of front to back with length, push, height, etc that you think is great, and then you can add more weight to the boat keeping the same ratio, or PITCH angle. You do this until you don't feel safer adding more weight to the front, because that is usually the place you will feel unsafe first. I could have kept adding weight to the rear, and I did do that at one point, but it just gets way too steep and short, and the motor, even the 575 was revving too high for me.

RPM is also a big issue. I want to get my best wake, a daily setup, and RPM should be around 3500 or so. Those are just my own rules of thumb.

I think most people would want the best wave with weight they can ditch. some lead is ok but when your dragging around 500+ extra lbs.... seems a bit silly to me. I like being able to pump out the weight!

I am good with 500 lbs of lead in the boat the size of RZX or so. I try to cap lead at 4-500 lbs, but again, this is a preference thing.

Oh, I should add. The 550s were great in the rear, but folks were asking me about stock and I said that if you did the stock 400s and then added 150 of lead in the corner, it should be as good or better since lead can be in the far corner. So when I had the chance I switched to the stock p&p config just so that I could make sure what I was saying was accurate, and it was. I also liked it that way a bit better because it left room for some storage on top of the sacks. I didn't change from the 550s due to an issue.

I pushed the limit with the z3, i ran 1100 in lead. But my lawdddddddddd did it crank out. Going to a real nice family!

Are we in agreement that 9 degrees is a desired PITCH angle on a RZX3?

So, what kinda wave are you getting with 550pnp bags and not runnning 1100lbs of lead on an RZX2?

I boat on a lake that can be rough at times...if I ever made the jump from the Z I'd probably want to start much more conservative with lead until I was comfortable with the boat,

Ill try to answer what I think you are asking.......

I run the 550s, with 350 under each bag in an rzx2, I then run 3-400 of lead in the boat as well depending on who is going out. This isnt what I run with all the time, but when the big boys, pros and or guys that want to see the big boy wave thats what I run, only I drive and thats it.

In my recently sold z3, I ran roughly 1100lbs of lead on top of the surf XL ballast, split between the rear floor of the lockers again when full with 10-11 people this is a boat that only I and one other guy was allowed to drive..... the Z notoriously has that lower step down in the rear rubrail. With the weight we had as well as 10 full size adults the water at rest would creep up over that line and into the activity compartment. As sketch as it was, the wave was a freak, a legit hip high on a 6'4 guy 10+ feet back, thick long and super firm and remained that way well into the 13MPH range, it just wasnt the easiest thing to drive, especially in anything other then early morning or empty lake glass.

I am doing a write up soon about the rzx2 and loading it to and passed the comfort zone. I should have it done by the weekend.

I will say this, my obsession and passion with weighting these boats started with RAG. All the credit goes to him as he spent significant time with me on the phone getting me as hooked as he is.
