I can actually chime in on this as we had a 2013 Z1.

We ordered ours with the VX, but if you do some searching, the VX we originally shipped with incorrect angled brackets resulting in a poor wave. Needless to say, I didn't want to wait for the fix, so I removed the VX and ran without it until the fix was in place and then put it back on. So, we used our Z1 with and without the VX.

Without VX: The Z1 naturally puts out a nice wave when loaded up with ballast. With the factory ballast, the wave is decent and very rideable. Now that we are in a 22Ve, I have to say that it didn't feel as if the Z1 was leaned over as much as our 22Ve feels - granted the suckgates are changing that.

With VX: It takes alot of weight for a 21.5' boat to get a Z1 with VX listed. Think of it this way, it is essentially a 23.5' running surface, so it is like listing a 23' boat without VX. This is however a good thing because you can get the wave of a "normal" 23' boat in a 21 foot package. With the VX, the wave forms quickly and is CLEAN. I really liked the looks of the VX wave. Ideally you would get custom sacs that will FILL the locker AND under the seats.

For a 21' boat, it is very spacious. All in all, it was a nice package. We had quite a few little things that kept eating at me, just little things. This was our 1st brand new boat and if I knew then what I know know, I think we would have hung onto it. We probably worked out all the little kinks and imperfections of a hand built boat and may have not experienced issues following. Seems that with boats and RVs, the 1st owner has to get things worked out and fixed and everyone after that has less issues to deal with. The one thing that I really did not like was the Tige Touch interface. It was SLOW, locked up on us quite a bit and just had odd glitches. I was also concerned with the touch screens being fairly new tech in smaller boats, that they may not have had longevity. I think Tige really improved the interface with TT2.

You can get a pretty big wave with the Z1 and a Vx. It takes a lot of ballast and a suck gate however. I wouldn't say the Z1 is roomy though. Foot for foot, I think the Z1 is one of the smallest interiors available in a 21 foot boat. However it is a pretty deep hull and is quite comfortable in all surfing and cruising conditions. It also is very fuel efficient.

Running w/o the Vx is something I tested, but I didn't like it. The rooster tail was fairly extreme and the wave was very peaky - granted I have much bigger than stock ballast.

I still haven't surfed your boat with the shaper/extra ballast. Looked awesome though.

Ok so I called on a 2010 rz2 and they said that the touch screen is going to go out soon because of some water got in the screen and it would be $2,000 to replace it. Does anyone know of an easier or cheaper fix/replacement.

Dealer told me there was water in the bottom of the screen. Is there an extra piece over the actual screen to protect it that you could remove and possibly get the water out?

Here is an 07 24ve that my dealer has for sale. Looks clean from pics but haven't seen in person. They ship anywhere and are good to deal with!

What do you guys think is a good price on an 09 24ve with low hours, clean and pretty much all stock, no extras? I was thinking about 44-45k.

If you can share a link of the listing/pics/description I believe that would help us help you. What motor does it have? Where is it located? As you know, different locations/markets will drive up or down the pricing compared to other markets. With transportation being more common, this has been minimized some.

If it is bone stock with the base motor, no ballast...I would think that $42 ish would be better. My

The formula I've been seeing play out for a long time is that a Tige is worthy roughly 50% of its purchase price in year 10. So if you can find the purchase price of a 24Ve in 2009, you would have a good reference. I would say it was likely around $60k so in two more years that boat would be around $30k. If my numbers are correct, I'd say $44k is a touch high at this point. But it all varies based on what sort of shape it's in.

I am not sure I agree with Johnnie, atleast right now anyhow, that is, the price of the new boats are just driving up the price of the used ones, our boats are going up in value, not down right now. The only way to know if you are getting a deal, is to watch and watch and compare, and look more, write down options, hours, condition, etc, and that is the only way. I watched for 3 years, only cause I wasn't ready yet, but it sure gave me a good idea of what was a complete rip off and what was priced accordingly. I have seen 09's as low as low 30's to all the way in the 50's. Location will play in the factor aswell. I can only see you paying in the mid to upper 40's atleast for that boat right now. Time of year will change the price a little as well. A quick look on onlyinboards and they are asking 40 for an 06. Doesn't help for you that you are looking at a boat people now know will surf good too. I feel your pain as I looked for a long time. You will know when the right one pops up and then you have to jump on it or its gone. When I bought mine, the dealer said after I put the deposit on it the phone never stopped ringing, I just happened to be the first to look at it and knew it was priced fair. More than I wanted to pay, but really nice condition, 1 owner, lower hours, etc. Good luck

Rising prices of new boats helps keep used prices up, but IMO another big factor is the growth of the surf sport.

It's supply vs demand, and there aren't that many old boats that make a good surf available...

Chugh2o, what about the 09 is so great? Why not a 07 or 08?

09 hull and TAPS are the same as 06-08, so same wave potential. Ballast weight was the same, just a different place for the rear tanks. First year of the Alpha-Z, so they may be a pro for some. Cant recall is 09 was first year of Tige Touch, but gut says 09 was last year of analog helm. 09 was a PCM engine, but im not sure that in of itself is really a huge deal. Id take Marine Power any day of the week as its the same GM 5.7L.

Just to fill in some more details on ChpThril's comments:He's correct, the 2009's have the analog gauges but also a small color LCD with a menu system, so it is a sort of hybrid helm. Still has the ellipical "Tige TouchPad"; it is used to run cruise control but also to navigate the menus on the color LCD. Also correct about Tige using PCM engines in 2009, and I couldn't be happier... PCM's support has been unmatched. They outright replaced my PCM transmission when it developed some odd behavior, provided all sorts of internal, generally-unpublished info when I asked for it, they've always put an actual technician on the phone when I have questions (and I'm an end user, not a dealer or service shop).

I agree with others that 2009 was a "sweet spot" for the Tige product line. Yes, it was the last year of the analog helm... but that means they'd had quite a while to work out any bugs, too. The hull is solid, super thick, no stress cracks anywhere that you seem to hear about in later years (of all manufacturers). It's easy to add your own ballast system, with plenty of room to route hoses and place pumps (today's engines seem to fill the engine bay with little room to work). Maintenance is very accessible too, a LOF takes me perhaps 20 minutes while on the water and I'm super thorough and OCD about spilling even a single drop of oil in the bilge so I really take my time. Oil filter is super easy to reach, drain hose and fill/dipstick tube right on top, etc.

I'm sure I'll move on someday, but it will be to a different boat... not a better boat. It would be hard to be better than a 2009 24Ve.
