So I heard not to buy boats in Texas or Arizona because they just get sun baked. Also that the engine hours can get reset and lower than normal. I figure if I can find a way to look at the boats and have them tested for actual engine hours it should be fine. Although it is harder for me to go look at boats as they are farther away from me. Also is there any worry in buying boats near those areas (Oklahoma, California, etc)? What do you guys think?Comment

Engine hours are stored in the engine ECM, not the helm. Its wise to get them certified prior to purchase, rather than go by the helm gauge. It seems odd this that you were told to avoid specifically those 2 states. I think no matter what state you buy in, you run risk of hours being messed with or it not being properly care for, not just TX or AZ. "sun baked" is just the boat not being stored under roof and properly cleaned and waxed 1-2 times a year. Of course it does get VERY hot in those states but its all how boat is cared for. You should know pretty quick if boat was sun baked or not cared for by looking at it cause gelcoat will have oxidation and vinyl will be rough or cracking on a 7-9yr old boat.
