    Suck Gate vs listed

Hey guys, I'm not sure if this topic has been talked about or not... I was thinking about getting some sort of suck gate for my 2013 Z3. My question is, will the suck gate give me a better wave with an evenly weighted boat than listed? Or do I still list the boat and add the suck gate to get a better wave yet?? I have custom bags from MLA on both sides. I believe they are somewhere around 1100# each. Any help or input is greatly appreciated.

Get a $200 Nauticurl and then you can do both. The suckgate wave will be very good--then you can decide which you like better. I have never done a Z3 without Convex VX or TAPS 3. I would think you will love what Nauticurl does.

I have a Nauticurl and it works well. You would not fully list your boat to use it. You either want to put in all the weight you have, or slightly list to side you are surfing.
A tip...rather than tie a suck gate to your boat...tie it to a large fender that is laying on the sundeck (if suck gate does not float and most done)...then if it slips off, you dont run the risk of the lanyard breaking from the strain, and it cannot drag and bang up your gelcoat. I have heard of this happening. The fender just falls off boat if it comes off, you circle around and pick them boat up. The one thing I like about use the suck gate, is it gives me a longer pocket than listing my boat.

I was a guy who listed my 14 RZ2 to get the best wave (I also have the big 1200lbs per rear corner), ended up buying the Mission Delta end of last summer to "see the difference" not only on my boat but other boats who all listed and by the time the weekend was over 5 of my neighbours bought the Mission Delta as well (not selling Mission Delta, but more of any type of suck gate as I'm sure they all work the same way) but my boat now evenly weighted (100% rear surf side, 90% non surf side and 100% fronts) creates a longer, we are now able to surf 25' back and the amazing extra push now allows you to try tricks you'd never do or would loose the wave instantly to now being able to catch the wave again and continue riding. Its also been easier for beginners to go wireless and kids to not fall because they thought they were going to hit the back of the boat........I can't say enough of how much better the wave becomes! Only negative is gas milage, 3400'ish lbs + boat + passengers = bad gas milage. We have the Convex VX, upgraded 1235 prop and to date have tried it on my RZ2, 09, 11, 07 Malibu's, Moomba and an older MC and as mentioned they all bought one after only trying it once.

Are you mounting it above or below the step in the hull? All the way back? Mission in reverse orientation or no?

Reverse orientation is better 95% of time on most all boats it seems. I have used a Nauticurl which is reversed by default. It's about $200 (really nice little suckngate)

I agree with above post, it makes a very very nice wave. I have really never seen anyone who weighs more than 100# ride 25" back, but I guess they're people too?

Lots of great listed waves, but you can't argue against how well these devices work with adequate amounts of weight.

reversed like you've got it pictured. I also have it as low as I can get it and as far back as possible on my RZ2. I tried it higher, which created a large rooster tail but its now submerged far more and I find it gives the wave a lot more push. And now I have a small rooster tail from the water displacement.

I have tried 3 different Surf Systems (Delta, Swell Wake, and Wakesurf Edge). Every one of them produce that rooster tail. I love the push and results of the wave these devices produce, but if I can get rid of that rooster tail enough to where it doesnt splash into my surf wave, I will be "happy, happy, happy"!!!

Our rooster tail doesn't even come close to our surf wave but I'm sure every boat would be different depending on weight, how low the suck gate is placed, how low the boat is sitting in the water, etc but I wouldn't paint a picture saying all suck gates splash into the surf wave.

I agree- I didn't intend to suggest that. My apologies if anyone understood it that way. Additionally, I don't think its the suck gate doing it, per se. Personally, I think it's a combination of other factors such as where the weight is placed, where the suck gate is placed, etc., etc. In other words, I think I just need to continue fine tuning. In closing, let me be clear, I am very happy with the wave produced by these products... I am just getting picky at this point.

My homemade suckgate is a "reverse" style. It also sits about 45* to the hull vs the deltas 90*. Great wave and no splash to speak of. I tried this design because I was tired of my 90* version splashing so bad. Dave, you may want to try something like this.

The Nauticurl like he ordered is angled. Wasn't splashing.
