Hahah the other tech at our shop just figured out the fix for this today. Climb up and take off the piece with the ball detent in it. The problem is the whole thing is a big threaded assembly and it works it's way into it's threaded hole. When you look at the piece you can see two grooves for a flathead screw driver to pop in. Only problem is it's very hard to overcome spring pressure on ball to engage with a flathead. Fix was to buy a cheap flathead, Dremel the center of the tip so it makes a recess that will go around the ball and lock into tabs. Thread whole assembly out, apply red loctite the put back on tower and adjust until it's set then let it cure.
All credit due to my co-worker as we've battled this before and he figured out the fix
