    Tower

Well... here's the situation. I bought a new house and the boat will not fit into the garage height wise. Even if I take the boat off the truck and lower the trailer down to the lowest point and push the boat in it still will not fit.

Is there an aftermarket tower that will fit directly over the existing holes on a 2006 20V? I'd rather dump money into a new tower that will be lower when dropped than waste money on storage.

Thanks for your help in advance.

Here is a picture of the current tower.

How tall is your garage door opening? I had to install a roll-up door to provide max clearance and still need to remove the fold down section of my tower to get it in my garage. A pain but beats storage cost.

7' it rubs now. The new house is 7' unfinished. So I know for a fact that it definentally wont fit when it's finished.

How close to the windhshield is the tower when folded? It looks like it might only be a few inches?

Consider flattening the tires. Some trailers can be retrofitted to be lower to the ground, but I don't know how much that would cost. Sometimes a different size tire may be enough to get you in.

If it comes to getting a new tower, I would not be as worried about going over the existing holes. For a fraction of the price of a new tower, a good fiberglass repair shop will make it like new. So get the tower that works best.

If the house is not finished, how much would it cost to redo the garage door?

        I hope those ideas help.

Xplosion Towers in Riverside CA builds a tower that folds below the window level. We would need the boat at the shop to match the existing holes.

When will we see a web site? also what other ideas for the monocoque piece can we expect? BTW I really like your towers and the overall look.

My web guy is out of town till next week, when he gets back i'll get a status.
As for the new tower leg we are looking at different widths. The objective from the start was to have a leg that was the same width as the tubing but it doesn't hurt to look at all the options.

Well I build houses for a living, so I can help you out a bit with this question. The problem is not raising the door height and putting in a new header.... as that cost is minimal. Actually if your builder is worth his salt, he'll just do it himself and not charge you for the labor.... but if he's like alot of builders now-a-days, he prob. knows nothing at all and will have to bring back his framer to fix this. But even that cost should be minimal as there isn't but an hours worth of work really.... but the cedar 2x12's aren't cheap (about $80 a piece) and the top header is the only piece you'll be able to re-use. The problem is you'll have an additional $1500 as this is a non-standard door height. The overhead garage door company's will bend you over if they have to custom order anything. Now that price is on the doors I use and are a very expensive garage door to begin with. But look for around a 20% upcharge on your door to switch to a non-standard size.

Of course all this might not even be possible as your roof line might not allow it. Just depends on your clearance.

I also am a builder. I never put anything in less than 8'. I also have found that price difference in the door is offset by whatever exterior finish is. Good luck on getting the door switched. I have a 10' and 12' door. Winter storage 10' side and summer 12' side not to have to mess with dropping tower. The 10' door costs me $900 current price. I know this because a week ago my 17 year old son backed the truck through it with out opening it. There is an idea, after you get in, I'll lend you my son and he can drive through the 7' as my truck won't clear that and your insurance can buy the taller door.

When we built our Lakehouse, I specified an 8' door as well. They had it all framed in and then the builder told them to reduce it to 7' (I guess he hadn't figured the extra cost for the non-standard door into his price). I stuck to my guns and now have an 8' door.

I wish I had the 12' so I didn't have to mess with the tower either, but it wouldn't have worked with my floorplan. I will probably have to build another garage anyway and I can guarantee you it will have stall with a taller door.

After my experience with my previous builder, I think I may give Original Wing Nut a call (if he'll do house calls in Texas).

Come on down, I'll buy you a beer! Probably want to wait until there's water in Lake Buchanan again...kinda dry around here. But there's always Lake Austin.

I am a UT fan, but not because I went there.

I re-read what I wrote and it was a bit confusing. I was meaning you'd prob. be looking at 1500 for the new door in a non-standard size. BUTTTTT Like Wing Nut said.... it's all about what your finish is on your particular door is, as most my doors are between $1300-$1500 for a 18'x7' door. I was kind of assuming your doors might not be quite as fancy as these. But that should give you an idea.

Personally I say get a new tower and pay someone around $150-$200 to patch the old holes.... it might be less than that even

Post some measurements (across both front and back mounts, and also front to back spacing, and horizontal offset) and you may be able to sell that tower to someone on here.
