    Best lakes

So I'm in the Air Force and will be moving this summer and am looking for the best lakes near Colorado Springs, CO, Santa Maria, CA or Omaha, NE. Those are my top choices for the next assignment and having a nice lake nearby is one of the factors I'm considering before submitting. Any help or good suggestions would be appreciated.

Santa Maria, CA as in Vandenberg? If so, the closest town is Lompoc, CA. My brother lives there. Nice little town, with quite a diverse population and economy. There's a lake about 2 hours North of him that I have heard good things about, but never been there... http://nacimientoresort.com/. Good luck... and GO NAVY! (Sorry, couldn't resist. I'd take california just based on the length of riding season and low-humidity weather. I have spent some time in Omaha for work and the humid, rainy tornado-filled summer is a turnoff for me.

Thanks, appreciate the info. It would be Vandenberg, it looks like a nice lake. Haha Navy, lol! Was just up at Kitsap-Bangor in WA, glad I don't have to go out on those boats.

Lake Pueblo is a slice of absolute heaven if you move to the springs.

We've been to Nacimiento a couple of times. It's a beautiful lake . . . when it has enough water. The only issue with it is that the water level can fluctuate a lot based on the ups and downs of the California rain total (and the amounts used by agriculture in the central valley). I haven't looked recently, but given our extended drought, I'm guessing it's low right now. That said, if it has enough water, it's a really good lake -- you can get smooth water later in the day than a lot of other California lakes.

Don't know if your AFSC is available at Nellis but if it is, I would think about adding that to your list. Lake Mead is around and hr away. Vegas is like in the middle of everything. If you don't want to be at Mead, 3-3.5 he tow to Havasu for a weekend trip. Or go north to Utah. They have Sand Hollow and Lake Powell there. Not to mention all the other things to keep you busy when you aren't boating. Just my opinion and you possibly cant get there....
