    Buying a convex

    Hi guys,

i'm looking for a Convex to install on an ASR. Local dealer told me Tige dont sell them anymore. Anyone have an idea where i can find one?

    thanks

It's gonna be pretty tough to find one. It's not impossible but definitely tough. Your dealer is right, even if the factory has one, they won't sell it to you.

    Check out this thread: http://www.tigeowners.com/forum/show...ight=convex+vx

It's from August and there were no replies. Maybe you can get a hold of him. The beam of the boats will be the same.... not sure it it would work.

    Or maybe this one...... http://www.tigeowners.com/forum/show...ight=convex+vx

The ASR was created towards the end of the Convex VX era so there weren't many ever produced. My guess is that they produced less than 50 ASR VX's ever, probably closer to 25.

Its gonna be a needle in a Haystack. You'd have better luck trying to get the factory to do the RZX hull conversion with TAPS 3 like the ASR for sale on OIB.

im looking to buy an ASR without the VX. somehow the dealer who sold it brand new kept it. I'm going to try it tomorrow. I know its not a surf boat but will see if something is possible with enought ballast.

Are you trying to dial in a surf wave? What is your setup? Issues? I know Nick at Chaos surfboards has spent some time dialing one in, maybe talk with him?

You shouldn't need the VX. Buy a suck gate and try it on your boat. It could solve everything.

The guy who designed that hull told me, directly and personally, that it will generate a decent surf wave but it requires a huge amount of ballast. So your theory is sound, just don't be scared by the magnitude of the ballast requirement!

made some test today. full ballast in front + 2500 in regular corner. Taps at 2. Pretty decent wave and im sure it can be even better. Had almost no fuel in it im sure it will do a difference with a full tank

I have often wondered if the ASR was similar to the early g23's before nss. I bet one of the wake shaping devices would do wonders for the ASR plus you could run more weight.

Replied before I read Duffy's post. I bet that would clean it up nicely and with the sheer size of the ASR plus ballast, it should make a wave.

When I was at the factory they were putting Taps 3 on an ASR. Not sure how it worked but possibly another option to consider.
