How Tap 3 surf plates work

I just want to confirm something about the left and right Taps 3 plates. When we want to surf right does the left side surf plate engage? And to surf left the right side plate engages?

Yes. Opposite side.

And as backwards as it sounds, the lower the number on taps 3 the more plate is deployed.... Its a common misconception around here.

They probably did it for consistency with the regular taps plate since 1 on that is fully down.
