How much weight is too much?

I think that numbers is 500... a side in addition to the stock surf xl. The boat and hull just didnt like it. An uptick in bow weight may have changed things but I wanted my buddies who had not been out on it yet to get some ride time......

Here are some photos of today with 800 extra in total rear weight...

Nice so that amount is with an additional 400 lb sac in each rear compartment? I wonder if the R21 would have the same result....

What do you mean hull? I bet a prop change and you could run a lot more then 500.

Stock weight plus 400 in each corner is money. Stock weight plus 500-550 is too much. Well for this prop. I'm gonna prop it and re check. Lots of cavitation/speed holding issues with that weight and the 1235.

Elevated what prop did your Z3 come with? 537/381 or the 1235?

I just noticed the wave lost its entire shape Duffy, I don't know if it was from the pro washing out, or the tabs with too much overal pressure but it was drastic......

I'm with you and you know a ton more about prop characteristic when running big big weight... I'm gonna try a 15 inch prop with more cup and see what that nets me...

I'm right at 4K in total ballast, would love to get to 5k because I think that's where the boat is gonna be perfect but now it's about getting the motor to get me there. I'm hoping a prop will do it but now we are talking about a lot of weight..... Compounded with running a surf system which makes it harder to Push through the water on its own right

Another huge factor is how many people are on board. Bow weight, fuel on board etc.... I run about 4k on a single side and the boat is fine, but if I have a crew of 8-10 I run less weight or the boat would explode. To me keeping RPMs down is key to a clean wave, my goal is 2900-3000 rpms.
