    Lots of tower movement

    Folks,

my recently purchased 08 RZ4 and the tower sways I feel a lot (probably 2" each way) when I go over rollers or any kind of wake. Everything seems to be tight, I was wondering if this normal with this large tower. I have attached the only picture of my tower I had on hand.

Any insight on how I can remedy this issue would be appreciated.

With 80+ pounds of tower speakers, you are going to have to live with some of that movement. Did actually tighten all the bolts/nuts including the two set screws on the forward feet?

^^^Agreed. Just get rid of your tower speakers.
You'll get your chance, smart guy.

I mean I can live with it, I am more worried about the tower coming crashing down....

I checked all the bolts and nuts including the forward feet and they were all tight.

When you do, can I have them. I just think they might look nice on mine.
Sometimes you have to do what feels good, rather than what feels right.

Getting rid of the speakers is going to make a big difference but your still going to have some shake with that tower. I have the same one and it shakes with or without my speakers on. Its one of the few things i really don't like about my boat.

my old supra had a tower somewhat similar and with the roswell 4 speaker metal pod that hung off it, there was some shake to it as well, especially when hitting rollers hard. that's one of the upsides to the alphaz however I have seen some shake in it when coming back in from the bay in rough water-even at lower speeds..

Keep on eye on that top cross beam where it meets the down legs. Mine cracked in the corners and have seen several other E-series towers crack due to speaker weight, and the violent shaking on rough water or while towing.

I'll second this. Mine was repaired once before i bought the boat, and i noticed a new small crack on the other side in the same spot.

Thanks for the heads up. How did you fix the issue when it started to crack?

Had to remove all speakers and wiring and removed from the boat then to a friend who tig welds. Several hour job from start to finish but am sure it won't crack again!

I sometimes look at my tower and ponder if a guy couldn't get a few tower clamps from a place like diywake.com and a couple pieces of stainless stock and make some brackets to stop the side to side movement.. On yours for instance, if you were to weld a piece of stainless on the top of your tribal upright and run it at a 45* angle and attach it to a tower clamp next to your speaker pod... Wouldn't that kill most of the sway?

You can do what I did to fix my e-series tower years ago. I accidently(really) drove it under a carport and tore the tower apart. I then called State Farm and filed my one and only boat clain after many years of paying premiums and got me a brand spanking new Samson Razor Tower. Samson worked with me on it and I got a great tower that eliminated the up and down problems of the e-series with speakers. I did not have anywhere near the weight you have bit the razoor went up an down with 1 person and did not rattle when the bimini was up. I was fortunate. $000.00 out of pocket and I was able to sell racks from the e-series.
