My partner at work has a brother who lives in the midwest and was looking at a nearly new ASR which he described as a 'great deal'. My partner asked me my thoughts and I referred him to some negative comments in this thread and suggested if surfing was a main consideration that he should consider why it is such a great deal. He bought the boat anyway, and put a home made suction cup gate on it. He describes the wave as terrific and is very pleased with his ASR purchase. The only picture I saw was one of those retarded pictures where it was obviously taken with a fish eye lens at water level to make the wave look a lot longer and taller than it really is. So I have not seen any decent pictures, but the fact that there is at least one owner out there who is happy with the ASR surfing capability is good news.
I really don't know what his background is or if he has much surfing experience, but it does make me wonder if a gate of some sort is the way to get a good wave from the ASR. I also do not know what the base configuration of this ASR is, whether it is an AVR, AVX or whatever Tige's surf system du jour was when this boat was made.
