ASR with taps 3 and modified hull.....

    Anybody know this boat: http://www.onlyinboards.com/Tige-ASR...oma-58673.aspx

Interesting that it says Tige modified the hull and added taps 3. I really like the depth of the asr and rzx because unfortunately we boat at lake of the ozarks. Thoughts anyone?

Well given that the rzX was essentially just a bottom tweak to the ASR, it sounds reasonable. If you go to the factory they still have the asr that as the bottom mocked up with material which was used for the rzX. Prob a really good buy if you want an rzX.....

Tige factory is almost always a good source of info and very helpful.

Considering Tige's track record of making things like TAPS 3 backwards compatible I would find it highly UNLIKELY that the factory did this mod. Rather I would be willing to bet it was done by a dealer. Personally I wouldn't touch it without confirming what was done with the factory. Some dealer could have done this and possibly helped the boat, but just as possibly hurt/ screwed it up. If this was done at the factory everyone is gonna know about it and it won't be hard to confirm or get info about it. If your interested check with the factory first!!!

From my experience, the factory has no issues making fiberglass tweaks especially given the scrutiny and issues surrounding the ASR. Doing an electronics over haul which was nearly impossible to house and function taps 3/AVX is a completely different story IMO.

I dont know of a dealer that could do the work explained above, I dont think any dealer would try and take that on and be on the hook.... Tige however has already done the above job and thus would have have the best handle on it..

I saw that boat in person while I was at Norris marine once. It seemed to be in good condition.

Not to hijack the thread but is the ASR dead? Not on the site anymore

Yes the RZX is what replaced it. Talked directly to Tige today and they did make the fiberglass changes to basically make an RZX hull out of this ASR. They did add the taps plates but they are run with regular lenco switches and could not be integrated into the computer system since the 2014 computer does not have that functionality.

I looked at the ad. The boat does not have the trim integrated into the computer. The tabs are manual, there is a photo of the two lenco tabs. I have also talked with my Tige dealer and they said that only 2015's can be integrated into the head unit. Anything older has to go manual.

What this says is that Tigé is willing to retrofit old boats. This could even go back to 2007 RZ boats.

I somewhat doubt Tigé will open up a Taps3 package to older boats but it shows they have done it at least once.

Eh I wouldnt go that far...

I think this is specific to the ASR and most likely only the ASR. It was a flop in their eyes with many being upset about the boat after the purchase. If anyone has spent time out in the back of the factory they probably have seen the ASR that was what turned into the Rzx. Im sure the reshape to get right was time intensive but the actual changes made to the bottom were rather slight to the avg joe. Tige knew that they needed to stand behind their claims that the ASR was their best surf boat.. It just didnt pan out, im glad to see they are willing to fix it even if for a fee. If I owned an ASR it would be something I would be doing right this second....

This was a dealer driven fix from what I was told. The dealer wanted to take the boat in on trade but they would only accept the trade if Tige would make the changes to the ASR. Obviously this was so the dealer could have a chance at reselling the boat as the normal hull ASR doesn't sell because everyone knows the surf wake is no good. I wish I could get down there to see it but unfortunately I have had a bunch of travel come up for business so it's near impossible. Good for Tige to help their dealer and make the fix so they can resell the boat.

Not entirely true. There was a post on here a while back (if I wasn't on my phone I would add the link) where they added TAPS3 with the Lenco switches to a R20. Not sure how available to the public it is but there is clearly a few kits that have been installed on boats that didn't have it.

^^^That was done by a dealer, Not the factory.

We all kicked around the idea if the factory even knew what this dealer was doing considering their history of not letting stuff be backwards compatible. The sensitive stuff(like TAPS 3 plates) has had to be a one for one swap with the factory in the past. When I was working there it was send the damaged one in before you received a replacement on those "non-sellable" items.

Tige did, for a while, let 2012 boats and even older add the Vx when it came out. So there is some precedence there. The key point they always hung their hat on was that it required an electronics change. We all knew that switches would do the trick, so now we know that they know that too. Their argument now can only be for protectionist reasons.

And let's face it. Guys will start fabricating their own TAPS3 systems if Tige doesn't sell it. So claim that revenue or let someone else get it.

Anyways - back on point. If Tige did "repair" this boat, then I wouldn't hesitate buying it. They did the same thing with some very early Z3 hulls if you recall.

I am more or less referencing a fiberglass bottom change... Not adding some plates or a VX. I would say that if you want taps 3 with switches etc, I know of dealers that arent batting an eye at doing it... Germaine comes to mind. So I dont know what the hooplah is about.

I am merely talking about Tige trying to do right by ASR owners and tweaking the bottom. Like I had said early on, their was no doubt that the factory had done this, I dont know of a dealer that could have done the work described above.... The real question is, will they do it for any and all of the unhappy ASR owners... for a fee of course.

If I own an ASR, im jumping all over it... yesterday... Who cares if its a 10k fix
