    Lake Roosevelt Suggestions??

Wondering if anyone here is familiar with Lake Roosevelt? We are venturing off of our home lake (Hayden Lake, ID) for a 4 day boat camping trip to Lake Roosevelt (leaving Thursday afternoon and coming back Monday).

Any suggestions for camping spots, must see places or coves we should explore? We have never been to this lake before, so we are sailing blind at this point. We are thinking of launching from the Fort Spokane area.

We go but have friends with a cabin at kettle falls so we don't venture much out of that area but this is a cool map. Not sure if you've seen this one before. It's mainly for houseboat rentals but gives you a good idea of some of the areas up north.

Our main boating is at Porcupine Bay. The whole area is great. If you end up at Fort Spokane head up the Spokane. The water is warmer and the traffic is less. You might have to go up a ways. If it were me i would launch at Porcupine and head down river a bit they have some great camping spots on the south side of river.

Thanks for the map link Cek. Davcoug, so you don't go to the main channel for Roosevelt, but stay in the Long Lake area?

If you look at a map of the lake, at Fort Spokane is where the Spokane River runs into the Columbia. Up the Spokane is where we usually boat. The Columbia is usually really busy and is choppy. Long Lake is above the Long Lake dam and that is quite a ways up the river. Porcupine Bay is about 11 miles up the Spokane River from Fort Spokane. There are more trees up that way as well if you want the shade to camp in. Just my opinion. I know that a lot of people like going down the Columbia to what they call White Stone. Really cool landscape but I don't think the water is as good. My 2 cents

This map shows the Porcupine Bay area

Thanks for the link and the info. We are meeting with the group we are going with tonight to make a final game plan. If anyone else has some feedback please chime in!

I usually launch at Lincoln launch off Miles Creston road (less traffic) and awesome launch if you're going to boat in camp. I'm gonna be down there the same time you're this week, if you see my boat stop by. Gonna be an assload of us down there this weekend. Only downside is burn ban in effect already (grrrr) and water is at full pool (1290) so a lot of the great beach camping is harder to find. Still my favorite place to be with some great bays and coves to play around in.

Likewise, if you see us stop by and say hello! We're going with one other family. They have a black & white MB.

Yeah, glad we had the boat tied down. That could have gotten ugly!

As you can see in pic mine was anchored, but I was out there at 3am fighting the roar of the wind trying to throw boat down the river. All in all it was a good weekend. Everyone was scrambling to save pop ups and tents. Was quite funny in the dark.
