used tige boats

Hi,
I don`t know much about tigé boats, actually I don`t know much about boats at all, but I am now hooked on wakeboarding so I am starting to look at used wakeboard boat in the price range of around 15-17k. I saw that the 97-99 tigé boats were in my price range but I am completely confused as to what the differences are between the models. I would like it if someone could tell me the difference between the pre 2002, pre 2100 etc.... Also, since I am going to use my boat mainly for wakeboarding I would like to know if tigé boats of those years kick a nice wake and how the wake would compare against a 95-97 mastercraft prostar 205.

Get a PRe2200v or a Pre2100v those are v-drive boats and they throw a nice wake with extra ballast added.

I've got a '99 2100v (basically the 21v). That basic hull design was popular with many of the pro riders until they revamped the hull in 2004.

It's great for wakeboarding and throws a pretty nice surf wake. The slalom wake at 32-34 MPH is ok, but not like a true ski boat. Check out my gallery for a picture of my ride. I have a lot more detail about my ride on WSR.

There are a couple of guys out there (like teamallen) who have older direct drives and they can probably give you the best feedback on their experiences.

The PRE before the number stands for precision. The model number has reference to the length of the boat. The WT that follows the number stands for Watersport Towboat.

2000 is 20' closed bow
2002 is 20' open bow
2050 is 20.5' closed bow
2100 is 21'
2150 is 21.5'
2200 is 22' v-drive

I have a link to an archived website from back in the day (1997). You can look up the model number and specifications. The page will pull up with the 2150 model review. In the purple box to the right there are other model reviews. Clicking on those links should give you specs on each of them.

1997 Tige' Models

The Mastercraft 205 is a very respected all around universal boat as well. The older Tige' boats you are looking at are made with wood stringers and floor.

Before I bought my '98 2100 (inboard/direct drive) I was also looking at the ProStar 205 MC. The 205 is smaller and has a better slalom wake but does not compare to the Tige wake for wakeboarding. You really have to bury the MC with weight to get anywhere near a good wakeboard wake. Also the fit and finish of the those years Tige is TOP notch. Better than the MC and I think even better than new Tiges. Plan on spending $17k-$20k and decide if you want a direct drive or a v-drive Tige from the late 1990's..............

I also looked at MC's before Tiges. The wakes for boarding aren't even close. These older Tiges are great right out of the box. Throw a little weight in 'em and they kick up real nice. The surf wake is one of the best ever and should be taken advantage of.

Do not be afraid of the wood. Hype killed wood stringers, not the fact that they are wood. Wood stringers are great for absorbing any and all vibration and it makes for an awesome ride.

Yeah, they're actually stronger and stiffer than the composite materials that replaced them. Too bad Tige eventually gave in and dropped the wood stringers.

I own a 98 PRE2200. I have owned it about four years. I do not use any type of ballast system. Normally when we go out, there are at least seven or eight people in the boat. I just shift them around for ballast.

The boat throws an excellent wakeboarding wake. I compared it with just about every other boat on the market and decided on the Tige. The Mastercraft did not have as good of a wake and was not nearly as wide as the Tige. The tige was heavier than the rest of the boats also. I like having the extra room. The Mastercraft is not built as stout as the Tige either. It tended to flex and shake in rough water. The Tige just pounds right through rough water. The only other boat I seriously considered at the time was a Nautique but I could not bring myself to pay the premium for a Nautique which is also narrower than a Tige. I am not sure where you are located but I am going to sell my boat if you are interested.
