    gfunk,

What you experienced is perfectly predictable. You had nearly 2K in water ballast in the back and maybe 400 lbs up front. I dont care if its a Malibu, MC, Supra, CC or Centurion. These boats just wont plane out with that ratio. In reality, these types of boats have a hull that learns more to the displacement hull of a cruiser, then a planing hull of a typical bow rider.

Your problem was bow weight man. Fill those fronts. All 800. I've done extensive testing with taps 3 this summer on my boat and if you are running enough weight in rear ballast and people...... fill those fronts. The the goal is to displace as much of the whole boat at you can..... within reason of course. Your ultimately shooting for a minimum 30% ratio of front to back weight.

You didn't specify where people were sitting so I'm just going to assume everyone was in the main cabin and no one was in the bow.

Rear weight you were at 1760 lbs + people (740 lbs) - this doesn't include you (if you were in the boat).

So.... your first setup ratio just with rear bag weight was 22% and with your passengers it was 16%

Your second setup you were 1210 lbs rear bags + 740 people and 240 lbs of bow weight. that gives you a ratio of 20% and then with people 8%

Ultimately you should be able to run 2650 lbs in rear ballast and people with both your front bags full (800 lbs) without having to have to add people or more weight to the bow.

To show you what I'm talking about: My boat is a 2015 but it's retrofitted with taps 3.

          Setup:

          Bow weight full: 800 lbs
Rear bags full: 2100 lbs (I'm 100 lbs short of surf xl becasue I have W004 bags)
People ballast: 680 lbs (250 lb dude, 300 lb dude and my wife at 130)
Simulated people ballast of 450 lbs in the form of a bag on the floor (shown while filling) - so over 1100 lbs in people and simulated ballast
          Taps 2: 4
          Taps 3: 5
          Speed 11.4 - 11.8

I have the raptor 440 in my boat but I'm at 5700 feet elevation where I usually put the boat in the water with a stock prop.

This is at 11.4 as I pull into pocket:

This is right after I took a digger. boat is level to spite the unprofessional holding of the go pro... lol

Need to be more careful driving the RZ2 with that bow weight but your should have no problem with the fronts full.

I've scaled my weight from Ragboy's RZX.

They run 1000 lbs bow and 1100 surf xl's full and 500 lbs extra in both rear lockers for 31.21% ratio. If they have a huge crew of people he has said they will bleed off some surf xl rear bag weight.

Getting out this afternoon. I will tinker with those ratio's you suggested thanks man. Everyone was in the cabin and i had my fat *** holding the rope trying to surf at 8 mph. LOL . I'll report back with results.

Im starting to turn my opinion on bow weight with the Z3. Maybe with a full slate of people 5+ plus aftermarket weight you should fill the bows but in almost every other situation I just dont think so.

Im routinely keeping my bow bags around the 60-80% mark. Thats with 1500 in each rear corner with an avg crew of around 3-4.

This prob sounds nutty but I have been out with a tape measure trying to get an idea of what exactly the weight is doing in different spots. By far what I am running now (Above settings) is yielding the best wave for me, and its allowing the boat to be surfed at around 12.5 MPH.

I will have the curl view up this weekend to really get some shots of outside looking inward at the shape and the pocket. With a tape im building a wave 3 feet high by roughly 18 feet long..

Oh and 10 people in the boat plus lead with all bags full. Not a chance for it to come on plane.... I only have the 400 but it was just too much, especially given we were on the river with a current of roughly 4mph.
