This shows the difference between a normal list, the tab, and the gate. Observe the mountains in the background to estimate wave height.

For what its worth, i am extremely happy with my 15 z3 with avx. I think if you put more lead in the back corners and dont put as much weight into the bow you will be very happy with the results..If you really want to make a surf gadget... make an adjustable VX.

If you were in osoyoos I would show you what it can do!

Just go with a taps 3 plate system. It's proved its a hybrid of all that has come before it and my pictures prove how insane the wave is....

I like your enthusiasm to innovate but I would venture to guess Tige went down that road and it lead to taps3 which is proving to be the superior in systems to date...

I sure wish I could try both an AVx boat and a TAPS3 boat. However my wife says we can't go to the reunion

One thing I've noticed about TAPS3 is the significance of the middle tab. It is much larger and longer than the old TAPS2 plate. It is what you need to remove that "rooster tail". It is basically performing the work of the "tunnel" of the Vx. That combined with the outer tabs does a nice job cleaning up the wave surface.

After my most recent tests, I am more in favour of keeping the Vx than I was before. Even keeping it at the Rev 2 angle. That wave I had in Shuswap was the best wave I have ever surfed, and with only 3 people in the boat. No extra sacks or lead. Just my home made suck gate.

As has been said - adjustability is key. I'm thinking it might make sense to design a gate system instead of a tab system. I have got ideas for both implementations.

I am going to try a couple more tests this fall, weather permitting. One will be to build a new tab to match the Centurion design (they are the only tabs without a hook in them). The other would be to fabricate a gate that doesn't use suction cups and mounts on the outside of the Vx.

My buddies 2016 supra burned to the ground he is giving me the swell system off of it. I think I can fit that system on my transom. Should be interesting! Just gotta clean the stainless and buy new lenco rams.

He has the 2.0 swell system. Hope it fits.

I would really like to experiment with adding a surf system on the back of my RZ4, but, I feel like you really only have one shot to get it right. I'm afraid I would put holes in my boat and then not like the result of whatever I committed to.

I've been able to all my testing so far without altering the boat itself in any way. I did drill six small holes in the Vx, but they are hidden and easy to patch. My remaining tests should be do-able with no further holes.

True to form, we are having a miserably cold Labour Day long weekend here in Alberta. However the medium term forecast looks really solid. So that means a few more boating days for me before October and my job takes my life away.

As luck would have it, Ewok was coming through town today, so he stopped by and I put him to work. Great guy to bounce ideas off of! (and he had some good ones all on his own)

So we cooked up a few more designs to try. I'll let the pictures do the talking:

Given the success of the suck gates on my hull and others, I wanted to try out an adjustable gate. It is very compatible with the Vx, almost perfect for it, so I wanted to give one a try.

The Centurion tab design could work too, but I have more doubts about it.

I'll be hitting the lake next weekend, so I'll get them all painted out and tested!

Thanks again Ewok. Next time come when it is warmer

                    Hey Johnnie.
Have you been able to get out and test your ideas, or is the weather been bad like over here on the west coast? I'm very interested in how these are working out for you.

Dumb question. Are you trying to surf starboard or port with all these contraptions?

All my tests are for normal riding (port side). While I realize what is best for one side may be marginal on the other... I am willing to accept that. The only goofy surfer is my wife and she isn't picky.

Lol. My wife is a goofy footer. If I could make a good wave on both sides I would not own a boat! Good luck with your tests!

So here is my latest video:

                                https://youtu.be/tST01BbRO4o

Unfortunately my "Centurion design" fell off launching the boat and I couldn't test it. So all I tested was the two different surf gate designs and how they compared to the suck gate.

Simple answer is the smaller gates work better than a bigger one. Either one needs to be taller to reduce spray. The closer you get to the back of the boat, the more height you need to protect from all that overspray.

I'd still like to test the Centurion tab, but I'm not sure I'll be able to before frost hits. Water was 55F this weekend.
