Just watched your video. The smaller tab looked by far the best, that's just my opinion. I feel if you made the smaller gate a little taller it would eliminate the rooster tail. A buddy of mine did that on his Calabria, basically adding surfgate and the results were amazing. I was looking at it the other day and it almost looks as if it a gate like yours, but another little wing coming off the bottom going in towards the centre of the boat, under the platform. I'm not totally sure what his design is but it really seems to work, it's something like this IMG_2130.jpg
Keep up the testing! Really neat to see, I know it's hard with the winter, as a fellow Canadian

Thanks BSReid.... that is an interesting idea. I'd be curious to see a picture of it. I could see how that might help. However the water coming over the top is a bigger concern than the water going under. You can see the water coming up and over and how it affects the wave. It makes a right mess of the topside of the wave - particularly when I add the offside ballast. Another point is the Vx cleans up a lot of that mess that you might get on a non-Vx boat due to the smooth outside edge.

I must say that after all this testing, the suck gate is a pretty awesome solution. It maintains the Vx wave, which I like. Plus it adds that extra long pocket. The other gimmicks just don't do as good a job. The small gate can be automated and made to be just as nice if I do it right. However it would take many weekends of work, and probably about $1000. The suck gate is free... or at worst I could build a new one for $100.

I've got a lot of figurin' to do!

I can tell you something: GSA works very well. Induces list and channels water flow to build the wave from the back side. They are running a 20% off special at Wakemakers, I heard. Controller is also beautiful.

Love all the experimentation, however in my world time constraints prevent it. I have not surfed a wave that's better--including Gen2, SurfGate, Taps3, Swell.

Set up, set up. Who's boat with what setup has a big part in that. I have been in taps 3 boats that just don't produce because of setup.

Cant wait to get you out Dakota...... Got a spot in the rotation for ya when you get some free time!

                Update here....

I haven't done anything on the boat yet this winter. I have been working on finishing the shop. However I think I need to do more testing before committing to a final design. As such I doubt anything will happen before boating season. I am still partial to the gate design.

Will the Ronix or Roswell system work or complement a 2015 Z3 with AVX?
I do get a great wake and my only challenge are shallow spots in my lake that are not avoidable
                  What is the GSA?????

I am thinking maybe I can list a little less and not need to transfer as much ballast from side to side.

Sounds like a cool project. Any updates?

No updates on an integrated design. I decided I wasn't ready to modify the boat without a few more tests. That means waiting for spring. (which around here could be July)

A suck gate of any design is a great intermediate means to achieve a terrific result. My plan is basically to automate the gate and that will take some time (and money)

GSA is "Go Surf Assist" I have it, only have 1 trip on it since the install but so far I am very very pleased with the result
My life's journey is not ending up looking pretty, its sliding in broadside, used up, worn out, screaming "What a Ride"

Well surfing season is back and I am itching to get back on this project (and my cedar surf board..... I just have too many projects). The good news is the shop is 98% complete.

The suck gate is still proving to be awesome. However I don't think I am quite ready to give up on the tabs. A few more experiments are in order.

Side tracked off topic but that shop is awesome. I wondered what went on the lift from a pervious post.

Thanks. I spent two years on the shop rebuild. I took a smallish 24x22 garage and raised it to 10' ceilings. Then I added 7' to the back for a workshop and tacked a boat-port on the side.

If you haven't figured it out by now, I never take the easy approach to anything.

The car is a 1999 30th Anniversary Trans Am Supercharged. I've had it for 17 of its 18 years and it now has a home to be proud of.
