I think I need a new ECM. Any advice appreciated!

My ongoing sage trying to get boat out of limp mode. ECM reporting two throttle position error codes. We have changed sensor. We have calibrated sensor to make sure initial voltage coming from sensor on power on is between parameters (0.95v-1.0v.) Mine is set at 0.975 volts.

ECM will not stop reporting errors. Can't clear the codes. Talked Eddie Albright himself - the inventor of the MarinePower. He sent us the flash codes to completely re-flash the ECM. Did that. Same error codes that cannot be cleared.

Both mechanic and I completely at a loss. ECM appears to be working as it talks to computer and reports everything as it should. Problem is I can't order and ECM then if that is not the problem return it.

Almost in tears as boating season is here and I have no boat.

Where are you taking the voltage readings? Could it be a wiring problem between the TPS and the ECM? Doesn't matter how new/accurate the TPS is if the ECM is getting bad signals due to bad wires.

If you're solely getting TPS errors I'd be slow to toss the ECM. That's a rather specific error. There are several kinds of TPS's out there; are you certain you got the correct kind? Sometimes the taper on the two elements is the same, sometimes it's opposing, etc.

I'd dig quite a while before taking a chance on a very expensive brand new ECM that you may not need.

We are taking voltages coming right out of TPS. Maybe I should put multimeter on the big plug that attaches to ECM to see if they are the same?

Not sure how else to test that wiring.

Yes, that's what I was thinking. What matters is what the ECM actually sees, not what the TPS thinks it's sending.
