    Some strut questions

Somehow my strut has cracked and split all the way across. Just was wondering if these were capable of being welded? Are these struts brass or cast iron? Or if it just needs to be replaced. Obviously it needs to be replaced just trying to hold on before claiming it and being out of commission for a couple weeks. If replacing is this a pretty easy job? I am a little unsure when dealing with anything beneath the water line.

Any comments, tips, or advice would be awesome.

    Thanks

Now this is interesting. Yes, replace it, I would not attempt to repair. I would also look for a bent shaft and out of balance prop, loose coupler and realign once its put back together,

With out a doubt replacement. That doesn't just happen without reason though....

I guess a bad cast and stress fracture is an option.

Also worth looking at the shaft seal and through hull. If that's been free it's bound to have damaged something.

Unless you're comfortable with this sort of stuff it's probably best left to a mechanic.

replace it, the bolts are Under the engine its a bit of a squeeze but you can do it with a buddy. If you have a prop shop around you might as well take the shaft out and over to them and have the shaft checked to make sure that is straight...may as well do it all. Its not a difficult fix but a bit time consuming and frustrating at times squeezing under an engine to get bolts lol
