    Upgrade from 06 24ve to z3, thoughts?

Fighting the urge to upgrade from our 2006 24ve to a newer z3. I have the 24ve dialed in for surfing and wake boarding so not necessarily a wake or wave issue. The z3 just has some many nice features, just don't know if it's worth the expense. Anyone gone from a 24ve to a z3 that can chime in? I know opinions will be all over the place. I wouldn't be able to upgrade to a z3 with taps 3 as that is a bit out of my price range. Probably looking for something around 60-70k with the vx.

Not a 24, but we went from a 22V to the Z3 and love it. No regrets so far...

Since you're already happy, ask yourself this: What "problem" are you trying to solve, and how much are you willing to spend to "solve" it?

If you weren't already happy with your existing boat, this would be easy. But it sounds like you have feature-itis. You don't really NEED a new boat, but the latest features are tempting you. That's perfectly OK, but just make certain the money you would spend is worth less to you than the latest fancy gizmos. Perhaps you can retrofit the more important features into the boat you already know and love, for less money?

I went through this "struggle" this spring, thinking about going from an 09 22Ve to a 16 Z3, for a bit more room and the latest and greatest features and surf'ability.

What kept me from doing it:
        - New engines have O2 sensors and cat converters. They work great when everything is working great, but I like ot keep boats for a long time and work on them myself. Simpler EFI and no Cats, a small block GM vs a dual overhead cam ford (many more SB GMs out there). Replacing a worn out small block GM marine engine can be done by anyone for a lot less than a newer ford IMO.

        - New boat issues. There is usually something (or a few things) that need to be fixed, warranty issues. Some big, some small, sometimes meaning you miss a great weekend or week on the water. No dealer close so it would be a hassle...

        - Simpler gauge package and switches, no touch screen. Like issue above, I can fix switches, a bad touch screen can only be replaced for large $$s.

        - Like others asked, what would I gain by a $50k upgrade? Not enough to make it worth it. the Ve's are nice boats, good surf wake... only thing missing would be the ability to switch sides on the fly.

All a matter of opinion. To some the upgrade isent worth it, I was one who fell into the camp until I fell victim to buying a new boat. Their are definitely issues but a new boat is just that a new boat. its plush has endless features that may not matter much to you until you actually use them and use them alot.

My new boat is the default boat everyone wants to be in, not because I offer but because its so plush, and so much fun to be in.

I wouldnt worry as much about warranty issues and or tech being an issue. Tige is pretty stand up and in all reality they are gonna fix things..

The motor debate is an issue until you spend time talking to their in-house indmar rep and you realize how bad *** this new power plant is. In no way am I worrying about a single thing given the extensive testing and run time before they made the switch.

Either you want a new boat or your dont simple as that...

Thanks for the opinions. I am going to wait until I can get into a z3 with taps 3. That is the feature I want in a new boat so hopefully in a couple years the price on a used z3 will come down a bit!

Talk to the guys at performancemarineloz.com in Osage beach MO they will get you hooked up with a new Z3 for way less then you'd think. Great ppl to deal with! Test several other models while there as you may find the smaller ones throw just as good of a wave and cost tons less.

Traded my 07 22ve for a 15 Z3 as I had same issues or thoughts you are dealing with and haven't regretted one minute changing to the newer boat. Good luck!

Also, it needs to be repeated every time: Look for leftovers! (i.e. new, unsold boats from previous years that are still on dealer's lots.) You get a brand-new boat complete with full factory warranty, and the dealer is very motivated to move it out at a steep discount to free up the capital for newer models from the factory. I'm not talking about demo boats, leftovers are a whole separate category... and there are no geographical restrictions on the dealers, they can sell to anyone anywhere!

Great find! I see two brand new 2015 Z3's and three RZ2's waiting to be adopted.

IDBoating, you have great knowledge, what would you expect to pay for a leftover 2015 Z3?? I imagine mid 80's but I don't know I haven't priced new leftover boats often.

My experience is that warranty work and service will be handled by the dealer you purchase from, unless the 2 dealers co-op an out of territory sale together. Overland Park to Michigan is a long haul.

Makes a person wonder why a dealer has several 15 models on their lot almost 2 years later when the 17s will be out in july Perhaps overpriced and hard to deal with or maybe they took them off another not so worthy dealer? Maybe someone in that area will chime in on that specific dealer?

007 I agree with the service issue for sure, however its still a tige so I'd think any dealer would have to honor warranty work no matter where it was purchased. Too bad the ASR surfs so bad, some great looking used ones out there....
