I purchased a 2008 Tige 24VE with the MP 340
from a dealership last fall. 156.4 hours on the meter when I picked it up, currently at 159.9. I have had it out 3 times. I let my buddy pull it off the trailer the first two times, he mentioned that it idled a little funny right away, and died once, but started back up and ran fine after it idled a bit. I figured this was maybe normal and after I burnt off the fuel that sat in it all winter it would get better. Fast forward to tonight. I pulled it off the trailer, it died once, started back up and idled a little funny for a few minutes, again maybe this is normal when they are "cold"- air temp around 70. Got up to 180 by the time i picked my girlfriend up from the dock (seems hotter than normal operating to me, but I didnt think anything of it) and as I went to take off and got to about half throttle it started to run weird, I lost power, and the dash started a continious beep, but display said nothing. I tried to give it throttle, and it acted like it wouldnt let itself go past an idle speed. I turned it off, let it sit for a few minutes, it started right back up. Temp still around 180, dropped to about 145 as I got up to speed. I cruised around and played with the throttle for awhile and everything seemed fine. Decided we would try surfing, I got my pump out and was messing with that, and let the boat idle, about 5 minutes later I went back to the helm and the dash said "temp 210, threshold 205". I shut it off, kept the blower on and opened up the engine compartment, and let it sit for about 10 minutes. Went to start it and it turned over for about 5 seconds and then click, dash wouldnt even start up at this point, so I had a buddy bring a jump pack out, and we came up with the same result, just a click, and a few times nothing at all. We towed back to my buddys dock and his dad who was at one time a boat mechanic came down to the water to help, starter was getting power to start, he figure it got hot due to a bad "fresh water pump" (impeller?) and was vapor locked and that it should turn over as soon as it cooled down. After it cooled down for a few minutes it turned over for about a second and at then the starter just started to spin. Pinion gear i am assuming? We then towed it back to the boat ramp and its now home.
So questions are-
Does it sound like those 2 things are my only problems at this point?
How about the odd running on initial start up?
Should I have done anything differently? Maybe it would have been good to get up to running speed when it got hot to cool things down?
What should I expect the dealer to do? They said they went through and checked everything out before I purchased it. They did say they didnt have the opportunity to water test it, but they were confident everything would be fine, and that if I had problems early on they would take care of me. Thoughts?
Cost of a starter?
Any help or knowledge would be appreciated, I know very new to boats and know little about them. Frustrating that I have only gotten 3.5 hours on, and its a 4 hour trip to the dealer 1 way. Oh and its supposed to be in the upper 80s, low 90s through the weekend.
Thanks
