    Marine Wax on New Boat

In the past we used a collinite liquid wax on the 20v. We picked up a new R21 recently and have about 15 hours on her. I'm preparing for a weeklong trip to Table Rock Lake where the boat will be sitting in the water and it dawned on me that I should probably get a coat of wax on her before departing.

The gelcoat looks brilliant even without a waxing yet so I had not thought about this prior to preparing for the trip. I contacted Tige to see if they had a manufacturer's recommendation on waxing do's/dont's as well as a particular product to use. The recommendation was to use 3M products, specifically the 3M Marine Ultra Performance Paste Wax.

Any recommendations to the contrary or suggestions on waxing? I didn't over think it with the older boat, but the R21's gelcoat really shines so I really don't want to screw it up. Thanks in advance for any advice or tips.

That is a great wax, but most marine waxes will work. Best way to keep that shine is to keep waxing...

The key is the prep work. A good polish will make even the worst wax look really good and the reverse is also true. If you have a cruddy surface then even the best waxes can only do so much. I currently use Collinite on my boat and have used Meguiers in the past.

I use Collinite Liquid Fiberglass boat wax, and then Boat Bling Hot Sauce Hard Water Spot Remover for the water spots after each use. It takes the spots of, but leaves the wax on.
