We were at Utah Lake and can get a decent wave considering the lake is literally between 5-7 feet deep!! But when I say decent I mean the girls that weigh less than about 150 can go rope-less but none of the guys can, if I want to surf I have to go to Jordanelle or Deer Creek, but Utah lake is so close and huge that it doesn't feel crowded on Saturday or Sunday, if it had 10 more feet of water it would be perfect. We put in at the American Fork ramp, the water level is super low even after the wake-less zone ends and I bet we don't get above 3mph for another 1/4 mile and I load everyone in the bow to keep the prop from dragging.

Yeah it's really too bad it's so shallow. I won't go back after hitting my prop there last year. We have really enjoyed jordanelle though. We are going to try to get up there on Saturday for wave testing. I just saw temps are 65* so I just might get in. With the wet suit of course.

We went to Jordanelle today and it was cold, but fun! Tested out the "suckgate" and it worked like a dream, I filled the boat with an extra quart of oil and cleaned out my sensors and the boat never went into limp mode, so happy it wasn't something major!

Here's a pic of the goofy wave, hope your gate works tomorrow!!

Boat loses acceleration when surfing and goes into limp mode...

Took my RZ2 out for a test run tonight to make sure all was well. Also wanted to test out my suck gate and I ran into the same problem. Filled up both rear sacs with around 900lbs each maybe a little more. Acceleration was pretty awful and something seemed wrong. Emptied the sacs and ran to boat around the lake at 35mph for about 15 minutes. Being the first trip out the engine was a bit rough at times as if there was some water in the fuel. Despite what seems to be a bit of bad fuel it had no issues accelerating. Next we tried suck gate with no weight and it worked pretty ok.Then we filled up the sacs with about 600lbs each. Set my speed set to 11.2 and all seemed fine. Accept for the fact that my suck gate sucks and keeps popping off. Now my speed set is about 2mph off and won't get up to the set speed. So I turned it off. Then, limp
Mode. Full throttle nothing but idle. Getting dark and I'm worried about killing the engine so we limp in and throw the boat on the trailer. I shut it off then immediately turn it back on and I've got full power again.

I'm really confused. What caused this? Do I have a bad sensor? This 07 RZ2 only has 98 hours on it. Just had it serviced when I winterized so I don't think it's an oil issue. I did add a second battery over the winter with a blue sea add a battery switch/relay. Hope this isn't causing a voltage issue. Help?

I had the exact same issue, and we have the same year, make, and model of boat. I would do what I did and give it a go, I cleaned both the oil pressure sensors with carb cleaner and after I had a mechanic hook up the computer and it gave me the low oil pressure reading he said to add an extra quart of oil and to use 15W-50, I guess because of where the oil pan sits on our boat if you start with that much weight in the back of the boat and don't have extra oil it gives the reading that there isn't enough oil, give this a shot, I went last Friday and surfed all day and never went into limp mode.

As far as your suckgate goes are you using the black plastic handle or the aluminum one? I have both and the difference between the two is night and day, I bought the black one first and then after trolling a mastercraft forum realized that the aluminum one would be much better, I never used the black one on my boat because when I got the aluminum one you could just tell it was so much better, so give that a shot and clay bar the area you are going to stick it on.

So do you think I even need to bother cleaning the sensor or is it most likely just an oil issue as you described?

What sensor did you clean? What does it look like and where can I find it.

I just cleaned the sensors because I didn't want to take any chances, but my guess is that it's really the oil pressure issue, add an extra quart and give it a shot!

How much weight did you have in the boat and where? I was just testing and not surfing and had no bow weight at all and about 2000lbs in the back.

Yep that's almost exactly what I had as well, I had 1800 in the rear, 400 in the bow walkway and 3 other people in the boat. One thing I did notice is that if I had someone sitting on the back it happened every time, but if I moved 2 people to the bow the problem went away, I'm thinking there was so much weight in the back and none in the bow this was causing the reading since the bow wasn't getting down fast enough.

Guys, just wanted to resurrect this thread, as I have the same issue and have tried all the solutions mentioned here and still have the issue. Has anyone actually fixed the problem? I had my codes read and had a bunch of codes in ECU, bit most of them were me trying to diagnose it on the lake!, however i have never touched the MAP sensor and it had a MAP code? Any updates would be appreciated...

I've had the boat go into limp mode twice this summer and I'm close to 100 hours and most of those are surfing. After each oil change I have added an extra quart of oil. I'm running the 1617 prop and the times that it has gone into limp mode my boat has been full of people and had 2-3 people sitting on the back platform. I'm convinced my boat goes into limp mode if the boat doesn't plane out quick enough and has too much weight in the back causing the low oil pressure sensor to shut the engine down. After it does this I turn the boat off, start up again with less weight in the back and the problem goes away, hope this helps.

I thought it was oil pressure as well, but after putting an extra quart in and cleaning the sensor, I still have the issue. Also I noticed that when you pull the Oil pressure sensor electrical connector off, you get a very distinct message on the dash LCD, which does not happen when it goes into limp mode while surfing?

Any idea what codes the engine is throwing? I would swap the MAP and oil pressure sensor if they have never been swapped, just for preventive maintenance.
                                Oh Yeah!
