Driveshaft support repairable or in need of replacement

So last Monday took boat out to a river I've been on severely times, it's marked and somehow I was able to hit a large stump 15 minutes into the day going at a speed of roughly 10 mph. I swam underneath to inspect for damage but everything looked fine until I drove it again. Terrible vibration when under power, upon pulling boat out I could see the prop didn't have normal pitch on 3 of the 4 blades. I had prop looked at and was told it isn't repairable due to the bend is so close to the hub. Got home tonight to look at it better and noticed the shaft support is also bent. Can this support be bent back or does it need to be replaced. Need some of my fellow tige owners opinion on what to do here.

I would suggest taking it to your nearest dealer, or at least another tow sports boat dealer that will have experienced techs that can check it out for you. Even if it is just the strut and prop, your gonna need to have them check alignment once those are replaced. My guess is that if you hit hard enough to tear up your prop and your strut, then as chp said, your most likely gonna have a bent shaft and possibly even more stuff outta whack further up... Have them look at it and give you an estimate to fix... This could turn into insurance claim type of money.....

Bummer to hear of this.

The technical term for the part in question is the strut. I think they bend pretty easily, and that might be better than it ripping out of the fiberglass. I have actually never heard of anyone straightening it out, I think it always needs to be replaced.

I am not sure I would believe the propeller guy you talked to. I would send it back to Acme and ask their opinion. They can work wonders with props that I have often thought beyond repair. As long as chunks of metal are not frankly missing.

Even if you pick up a new prop see if acme can repair and keep in the boat for a spare

I had similar damage on my Moomba at 8 hours. Fortunately, I lived close to Elbert's at the time. He sold a new strut to me, checked my shaft (which was still straight), sold me a prop puller, and I had the prop repaired.

The prop shop did say they could have repaired the strut but they do large marine equipment repairs.

Good luck, I feel your pain.

Double check for fiberglass/gel damage. I was fortunate to have none.

did a similar repair on a 2001 22v, bent strut but the shaft actually checked out as fine. props can be cleaned up by a propeller shop, and they often times have the gauge to make sure the shaft is straight. Good luck

I got boat back to the dealer today. The local prop shop I had taken prop to told me it was not repairable due to damage was to close to the hub? The dealers prop guy looked at it and said it looks repairable. I will let you know the final results when I get them. Either way it looks like I may need to claim this unfortunate accident.

So the cost of repairs came out to be just over 3,100. That's going to be prop, strut, shaft, shaft seals. Shop labor was figured at 12 hours. Should hopefully be finished this week
