New 22V Owner - Sloped Transom Question

    Hey Guys,

I have searched everywhere for an answer to this question - so sorry if it's been discussed here a million times - but I couldn't find a mod yet that was a cost-effective solution (saw a billet aluminum solution for around $500 - but that's way out of my budget). We absolutely LOVE our new (to us) 2005 22V - but there is one issue that is proving to be a real problem...the sloped transom to the swim platform. The issue is just the difficulty it presents in trying to get on a wakeboard. I've had to actually sit on the swim platform with my legs / board in the water to attempt to get the board on...which, for an old not-so-flexible guy (that's not in the shape he used to be) is not the easiest thing to do. I've noticed the new Tige's have a vertical transom and actually have a little bit of a recessed area under the seat so you can sit with your legs vertical and feet directly under your knees. I was thinking that some kind of bench or seat tied into the transom grab handle would help - if not completely resolve - the issue...and searched everywhere to see if there was something aftermarket produced here, but I couldn't find anything (maybe I'm using the wrong search terms). Anyone have any recommendations or an inexpensive mod?

    Thanks!

I totally feel your pain on this one and plan on building a seat to the grab handle. I have seen a guy in this forum build a nice seat out of teak. I will do some digging for the thread.

Found it. Wish he had a pic of the bottom.

Attach the supports before you attach the top boards so you will not see the fixings and use plenty of wood glue.

Sorry - been away and haven't had a chance to check back in...but just did and...WOW! This is perfect - thanks so much for sharing Capta1n - that's exactly what we need. What was your total build cost?

I loved this idea so a friend and I threw this together last week. I wanted to make it detachable, but after a few days on the water I couldn't imagine not having it on my boat. Next to FAE it's the best addition I've made to my boat. image.jpg

Thanks. That was the practice run. Going to make one out of teak to match the swim
platform as soon as I can find a supplier.

How does the grill handle the ride? I could see maybe putting it in storage until you get where your goin, but once you cook it's gonna be too hot and dirty to put back in the boat. I've seen many on cruisers and pontoons, but those type boats usually ride a little smoother...

The mount is pretty strong, but I havent tried cruising with it. I was able to cook during a wakefest competition. I keep the grill and post in a heavy canvas military parachute bag. After we finish eating I rinse the drip tray in the water and the grill is plenty cool enough to pack away. If it's still a little warm a splash of water cools it quick.
