Homemade surf system on my 2001 21V

hi,

i just want to preset you my homemade surf plate for my 2001 21V. that work pretty well and my wave is very hard. if i piut the plate to much down, the wave become very long and flat and is was very difficult to surf, if i put in the middle position the wave become very stepper , nerly to much.


i done for the moment only on the right side, my other plate will be done in 2-3 week.

i'm running 2x800 lbs on rear and 400 in the front, taps to 5-6, 2-3 people in the boat.

at this moment i'm using a simple 3 way switch but i will fining my stand alone control with GPS ( to retract them over 15mph ) with a OLED display and memory for the position. I'm a full time electronic engineer so

in the instruction of wave control or in the patent of mastercraft they said that the angle with the bottom of the boat will be between 10 to 12 degree downer of the bottom. in my test, i get the best result between +2 to -2 degree . at -12 degree, the wave is to long and impossible to ride over 9.5 mph.

the only important thing to understand is : you don't want to cancel the opposite wave, you just want to delay. to much delay , the wave of the surf side go straight and be very flat but long and super clean. not enough: the wave if very short and tall. with the right timing ; the wave is hard , tall, clean, and easy to ride.

Is not a coincidence , every company in the video talk about the possibility to adjust the wave to different riding style.

for the shape of the plate. with my first prototype i understand the importance to eject the water to the opposite side, it's only to avoid a wash on the wave.

i only doing it because i don't like to put a **** load of ballast on one side. ridding my boat level is my major motivation and it's work perfectly.

I'd be very interested in your controller. Build two!

One thing I'm not sure about is how you can accurately monitor the current position of the tab. Lenco's controller bases position off of time of travel. So anytime you hit the button it starts counting, assuming that the load on the tab is always the same load as it was programmed with (probably no load). So switching while moving will throw that off. I just hold my buttons a few seconds longer, after the gauge says it's all the way up or down. And so far have really only ran with them all the way up or down. Setting anything anywhere else will be hard to duplicate down the road.

I have no other choice, I will guess de position with time, there no position meter from lenco. Bennette have one on it but not lenco.

As far as shaping wave every boat will be different. Your wave be long and smooth no push because you have little ballast. Most boats set up for surfing have upwards of 2500 lbs. and hull designs are different as well. I have actuators for doin this same project on my 08 z1 but have yet to make the tabs. Trying to find stainless hinge material is hard having only the wed as source to get it.

mc master carr for the hinge, in the video and the photo my wave look not so big but like a said before, when i move the tabs i have the choice to get 3 foot longer wave or 1 foot higher. i will make a video with another boat who gonna film the wave. my overall weight is 5400lbs in the video.

and i'm using 14.5 x 13.75 prop, blue walter v-drive. engine rev to 2800 rpm at 10.8mph

I have a few feet left over from my build. It's not drilled but I can do that on one or Botha sides if you need it.

Testing the goofy side yesterday


The goofy side is very difficult to achieve without wash. My plate need to be a little further down. I will adjust my lenco to get a better angle.

Which length Lencos are you using? What is the dimension of your tabs? How far up and down can you get your tabs to go to?

I'm using lenco 2.25 inches of travel. My plate is 17 inch long by 12 inch wide. For the regular side, my plate best position is parallel with the bottom of the boat. For the goofy... I try 2 degrees downer by I think I need more like 5 or 6 degrees down.
