2014 Tige Z1 possibly battery issue

Took the boat out today. Wet sounds stereo worked for like 15 minutes then would start fading out and eventually have no sound. Finally turned the stereo off. Several hours later while driving my side engine light started beeping. Turned the boat off to try to assess why it was beeping and then tried to turn the boat back on and it would not turnover. Had somebody jump start my boat and it cranked up. Ran for about 10 minutes then all the gauges, touch screen, and engine started shutting down.

Seems like a battery issue but battery is brand new. Any reason why it wouldn't be holding a charge? Or does it sound like something totally different?

Sounds like you're alternator isn't working

DP Powell had a similar issue when he bought his, mourned out to be loose connections under the dash. Physically check each connection under the dash, even if it looks connected give them all a good push together.

My first question is why does a 2014 boat have new batteries. I ask this in a rhetorical sense. Next is to understand that when a boat is in use, you are not really running off the battery, but rather the alternator. So a batteries ability to "hold a charge" while not in use, is somewhat irrelevant. A battery is nothing more than a storage device, so if theres no alternator contributions while the boat is in use, we would fully expect the battery to finally run out of steam.

Id start by looking for a missed battery cable that didnt get connected up on those new batteries. Next, id check the voltage at each battery and recharge them as needed. Finally, fire the engine up and test for alternator voltage at the batteries.

The exact same thing happened to us on our maiden voyage . Loaded the boat up before it quit and found the alternator plug just hanging there - plugged in and has worked fine since.

The only issue now is that both batteries don't charge in the "ON" position - I have to go to "BOTH" to charge both. Not sure its supposed to do that...?

            Easy to diagnose and resolve.

Where is the alternator plug located?

10/4 - I wasn't sure but didn't think it should be that way. I'll dig in and see what I can find...

On the Raptor, it is on the starboard side of the alternator. IIRC, its a 4 point plug - just plugs right into the alternator.

Alternator should contribute to both batteries through the VSR with the switch in thr ON position. Short of a failed VSR, its likely a missing cable.

With engine running, there should be alternator voltage on both sides of the VSR (large posts). Could be a B+ cable or the small VSR control cable missing somewhere.

Turns out Alternator was only producing 10.6 volts. Had to get the thing replaced.
