Ok....... I reread that other thread.

In the thread, Gibbs claims the transmission replacement, motor realignment and pro shaft replacement were all done in late June/early July. Gibbs claims to have the boat back after the fixes and when he gets it back on the water the same issues he was having before still exist.

Gibbs says he contacts Tige and they tell him they are at a loss on what to do and tell him to contact Indamar to fix. He contacts Indmar and they tell him to let the Malibu dealer look at it. Gibbs says he is pretty much sick of dealing with it and wants to trade it in for another manufacturer.

Gibbs ends the thread with saying he traded the Z1 in at the Malibu dealer and orders a T23 in July 2015.

If your being told there was a prop shaft and a transmission in September/October then there's only once conclusion:

The boats had a third transmission put in and a 3rd prop shaft or one of the stories is not correct.

jzig211 - You asked for our opinion, so I will give you mine, for what it's worth. I would keep searching for another Z1, even if you have to make a longer drive to get it. They are out there! This specific boat would cause me enough concern to pass.

Not worth the risk. I also read Gibbs thread and it was a lemon.

But..... Gibbs had problems right off the bat when putting in the water. So if you put it in the water now and ran it flat out for a few hours and couldn't duplicate his problems I would say it's safe to assume they finnaly fixed them. So then you wheel and deal a bit with the salesmen and then think about it overnight. Then the next day you just happen to find his thread and go back to the salesmen with great concern. Wheel and deal some more.

That has been somewhat of my thought process. Is it crazy that I found Gibbs on Facebook and sent him a message asking him if we could talk? I typed his name on Facebook and found a photo of his boat that Tigé had tagged him.

He's on the malibu forum: themalibucrew.com and the axis forum as well. He's posted as recent as last week.

                ***UPDATE***
I spoke with the dealership selling this boat this morning. Here is what the dealer told me. "Gibbs previous dealer was clueless and did everything but fix the actual problem. Prop shaft and transmission was replaced for nothing because that wasn't the problem. " the dealer said because everything is electronic now they had to replace the throttle. He says that fixed the revving issue that Gibbs was having. He says that's all it was.

I did see where somebody mentioned that to Gibbs in his old thread, but sounds like his dealer was wack.

For what it's worth this dealer seems pretty honest and reputable.

They told me they would extend me a warranty and that it should anything go wrong they would take care of it. Although he feels pretty confident that I have nothing to really worry about.

                Thoughts???

I would insist on a water test. Not the test at delivery but an extensive water test prior so you can get a chance to sit in the driver seat and run it through RPM's.

I know you like the boat. However, test drive some of the other Tige's out there. I had my heart set on a Z1 when i was shopping. Like a previous person said it and Z3 were "tippy" I went and tested a RZR in the same price point, and my wife I liked the boat ride and all around wave more. The dealer then took us out in a RZ2, and wifey liked the size of that one even more. Lucky for me it had surf ballast and VX on it, but now we have a baby I am just struggling to find a chance to even use mine. What ever you get dont listen to use you have to be the one to live with it we just get to see post. I am out of Birmingham and go to Smith Lake. When you made first post I thought that was the exact same boat I saw when i went to pick mine up from being serviced last year, and they told me transmission was being replaced.

I keep hearing this word "tippy". Can someone paint me a picture of what is being described as "tippy".

By "tippy" they are referring to how the boat handles when a person in boat shifts sides of the boat while under way and it changes the wave, usually causing it to wash a little. It also may require you to move ppl in correct spots in boat if surfing, or wakeboarding, or even slalom skiing to get the wake perfect. It isn't anything that will make the boat unsafe, just tends to be a nuisance for some, as it will effect the wake accuracy if you were to have several ppl on board and allow them to move around.

The larger z3 is less "tippy" then the Z1 but doubt it will be an issue for you if only surfing with a small crew that doesn't move around. I don't like ppl moving around when boat is underway anyway so not an issue for me.

X10 on the in person water test before purchasing!! Run it through its paces and move around in it to see if the weight sensitivity will be an issue for you. The Z1 is a great boat and for that price if it checks out I'd say you are getting a great boat.

In addition to what JLG said above, the Z1 can be a little weight sensitive at higher speeds. If youre doing 15-20 across the lake in a little chop, you'll never notice... but if youre doing 30 in calm waters first thing in the morning, you will notice right away. You just have to adjust people a little, no big deal.

Is that common in certain inboards? What causes it to be so sensitive? Are y'all referring to it being tippy even with empty ballast?

Not common from my experience (I owned a Direct Drive before this boat), but again, I dont believe its enough to cause concern. Yes, tippy at high speeds with empty ballast. Test drive any Z1, it wont take long to notice. Again, it's really no big deal in my opinion... but it really bothers some people.
