2016 Surf XL Ballast down from 2015 on all boats

I totally missed it when we ordered my dads boat months back and I missed it when I ordered mine a month ago but I think its important to note that the total ballast went down from 3500 to 3000 on all boats this year that previously carried the 3500 capacity.

When I was at the factory I asked the total weight this year and was told 3000 lbs but it went in one ear and out the other. Just a bit of info that I think is important for all those trying to set up their new boats while digesting old topics on factory weight etc.....

I know that when I spoke to a guy on the line plumbing in the bags, he informed me that the rears were 1100's which means the fronts are 400s.

Reason for the change.... Coast guard compliance with the new taps 3.

I actually got out my old bag and measured it...it only carries approx 11-1200... I think its a case of actually putting the correct numbers out..

Keep in mind that the early 15's still had the 250# hard tanks in the rear lockers. 250 x 2 = 500 and 3500 - 3000 = 500 . Not sure though, what TAPS-3 has to do with and the GC. MB and a couple others offer more OEM ballast on their "gated/plated" boats.

I have no idea what you are referencing or pointing out......If my mind serves me right my late model 15 without hard tanks still had 3500.

I know the early models had some weird hard tank things going on but the The late model 15s had 1200-1200 and 550-550 if I am not mistaken...

        The 16s now have 1100-1100 400-400.

Just putting it out that the overall ballast went down for 16 from the final plug and play product of 15 and that it went down because of coast guard regulations apparently.

The 5 model years prior also had some weird hard tank thing going on too. The 2015 Tige surf sac I saw the design for, spec'd out at a little over 900 lbs.

My boat was one of those early model 15 Z3's with the hard tanks.

            Here's the 2015 Tige Brochure:

            https://issuu.com/tigeboats/docs/2015-tige-brochure

            Surf XL for 2015 = 1200 1200 rear and 550 550 front for 3500 total
Wake Pro Ballast = 600 600 rear and 550 550 front for 2300 total (this is what my boat came with, then I swapped the 350 bags for my W004's). I haven't verified the size of my front bags physically but with the 600 lbs rear weight the fronts have to be 550 to get to the pro ballast weight figure.

            Here's the 2016 brochure:

Looks like there's only one ballast options for all boats..... Z3 is 3000lbs.

I can tell you with certainty that there are no hard tanks in the 16s as I walked the line and saw everything that was going in every boat. 4 bags total rzx to z3 all the same... thats in reference to the surf xl.

Im just perplexed that the taps 3 made the bigger weight an issue... I get that the boat does not need 550s in the front so the change is understandable but to go down 100 in each corner is odd to me after they tested and tested and settled on the 1200s the year before.

The whole thing is just odd to me, especially given that the reasoning is because its a regulation issue in reference to taps 3. I agree with you Mike, I have no idea given the other makers carrying way more water why its an issue.

They got the boat dialed in late 15 after people bitched and complained, why now change? And then you have wake 9 who had to add 500 in each corner to get the RZX to settle. The whole thing just doest not have any rhyme or reason. I dont get it...
