It seems like batteries these days are not lasting. Has anyone tried the optima stuff. My buddy had one in his mustang it lasted 3 years. I am kinda thinking of getting a less expensive battery if they don't last anyway.

Maintenance is key for any battery. These batteries can be months old prior to even getting put in a boat. From there, they can sit on a dealers lot, go to boat shows, get run down by tire-kickers wanting to play the stereos and turn everything else on in the show room. Most dealers dont keep the batteries up while in inventory. If its low when the boat needs to be demo'd, the jump it an roll on. If its the house battery, its gets nothing until the engine is fired. No time to actually recharge by time the demo is done.

Im not a fan of the optima, especially for a house battery. Very low AH rating per $$$ and lower than a comparable wet cell lead acid.

Just to be fair, this is not a Tige issue, but a boat builder biz issue.

Im an interstate dealer, so I use a lot of those and with good results. If you did deep, you will find that most all batteries are made by only a few actual manufacturers. I think the Napa brand is made by East Penn, who makes Deka. Good battery there.

I replaced my batteries with Deka last year, great price point and not a single problem.

I replaced my house battery with 2 6v batteries from Costco (interstate). Picked up a promariner to keep it all charged up and recently picked up a flo-rite pro kit. Haven't had any problems with this setup. The flo-rite kit is amazing by the way. So much better then filling by hand.
