    Katherine's landing

Do not go to Katherine's landing. The road is now all dirt with pot holes. It's really horrible. By the time you get to ramp your boat is a mess. The trailer is a mess. People are losing lights , breaking welds etc. Asphalt was removed and getting the boat to the ramp is horrible. The parking has been reduced. Saw a helicopter come in for rescue and picked up so much dirt and dust that you could not even see it. Not good if picking up person with respiratory issue. Gate attendants are suggesting to go elsewhere. The road construction was to be done by May. No where close. Rangers are now suggesting next year. On top of this rates for yearly passes went up. Take the Rangers advise and go elsewhere until it's finished with new road.

Thank you! I will let my friends know. That is their ramp of choice.

Was down that way a few weeks ago getting my pass. On a Tuesday morning took an hour to get to the ranger gate only to find out the same thing rates are up to $50 a vessel this year and the stickers are purple ugh. Lady at the gate said maybe July 4th. But next year seems more reasonable as much work as they are doing.

That was our launch of choice when I was a kid. That was where I learned to back a trailer and launch a boat. Fun to see the name Katherine's Landing on the forum, but a bummer that it was under the role of bad news.

Where does the dirt road start? Does any one know if the Telephone cove road is still paved? I am thinking about going in late August hopefully it is resolved by then.

The road turns into a mess about 1/2 mile after making the turn to Katherine's and is a mess all the way to the entrance booth and then all the way down to ramp. It's horrible. The turn to telephone is paved but then it's dirt when making turn to telephone cove itself. Just everyone stay away if you value your boat , trailer and vehicle until they get this situation fixed. For right now I strongly suggest going elsewhere.

The extra 1 1/2 hour is worth the drive to me to go to Temple bar, Havasu, or cottonwood if staying in Laughlin to avoid. Katherine's

The latest on Katherines is it is still not finished. There is a two mile section left to be finished from the turn of the hwy that is still all dirt and has pot holes and jerks that go around you at high speed and throw dirt and dust all over your vehicle and boat. I even saw a dump truck being filled with dirt as the vehicles were going by and part of the dirt and dust ended up on the boat. Its stupid. The parking lots are now paved, the ramp is only half done still needs to be finished. Its better than it was two months ago but its still not good. I tried it gain this weekend and it took me an hour to get from the main hwy to the entrance kiosk. For right now Go elsewhere if you can. I spoke to the employees at Cottonwood cove two weeks ago and they told me their business is way up due to the mess at Katherines.

Just stopped by Katherines Yesterday myself, and it was actually worse then when I was there in April. The pot holes and washboard where BAD, not nearly as bad on the way in as the way out but wouldn't even consider taking my boat down that road. You did better than me Gman I didn't even make it to the kiosk sat at the traffic light waiting for the escort for 30 min and said screw it. Construction crew was flying around on dozers making dust clouds and hauling massive rocks out of the gorge weaving in and out of traffic it was crazy up there. I don't see that area being done before Labor day. I will say the one nice thing I noticed is the got rid of the stop sign and T-Intersection and just made a curved turn which will be nice and ease the traffic leaving out of there a bit. I plan to make a few more trip that way this year I will make periodic stops through there and see how its coming along.

Update on the road. Road is now paved from the highway to the turnoff by the dam. Also paved from Ranger Station to the top of the hill. Middle section still dirt. Launch ramp is done but done poorly IMO. Whoever was contracted for this project needs to be put out of business. Project was supposed to be completed by May 31. They better hurry before the monsoons show up!!!

I will give a final update on progress in a few days. I will be here until July 10.
