So I will be doing some camping with the boat shore anchored this year. I've purchased and received all the recommended stuff, box anchor, slide anchor, anchor buddy and some danik hooks. The anchor buddy says on the package not to use for anchoring over night (which is really the only time I am going to be anchoring). I am going to use the anchor buddy with an anchor line attached to it like they have on their recommended setup. Should I really listen to the package, or is this one of those things that they have to say and that everyone ignores and will be just fine if properly used?

Also, while we are on the subject, If you are using an anchor line with the anchor buddy attached to it as the image a few posts up shows at the "Tie Loop" portion, what would a good knot for this loop be? An Alpine Butterfly?

I used the anchor buddy when I first started out but found it didn't do well in windy conditions (it would allow the boat to drift too much). I'm assuming that's why they say don't use it overnight (when there's no one watching it). I guess it would depend mostly on your lake and whether you can expect wind overnight.

What lake do you plan on going too? I started doing some research into doing that and couldn't find any decent info if it was possible around us....

It would be cool to find a place a little closer, but I have not dug into it much yet, however, We are going to Norris Lake in June. Found a campground (Loyston Point) right on the lake where they say most just tie off right off the campsite.
We are planning to make this one of the things we do at least a few times a year. Hoping to find a few other spots like this.

If you're worried about the anchor buddy stretching out towards shore in the wind, have 2 lines attached to your anchor point. One the buddy and the other a standard line, keeping the line the same length as the anchor buddy not stretched out and only use it for over night or windy occasions.

Anchor buddy definitely moves with wind and current. If I'm expecting either then it gets an additional line and I try an line things up so th nose points into the wind.

For overnight in the cove, sleeping on the boat, it works great. Just tie off a bow line and let it swing with the wind/breeze.

Been using a box anchor for years and love it, especially needing less scope in a tight cove where you don't have a lot of room to swing. Love the danik hook, too. Wish I had bought one sooner.

If beaching in sand and swell/high traffic or heavy cross current:
                1. I've never tried the mobilehome storm anchor somebody mentioned, but I have tried corkscrew dog spikes and burying danforth style anchors in the sand. These only worked for me if the boat was relatively motion free. If I was getting rocked by passing boats all day then generally those options would only hold for an hour or two. Using a danik hook off the bow tie down or running 2 lines off the mid or rear cleats to opposing sand anchors helped, but only prolonged loosening of the lines/anchors. I don't have a shore spike, but I've seen them work marvelously where the above mentioned let loose.
                2. I've seen an anchor buddy snap...the second line is cheap insurance.
