    New Owner - First Boat

    Hey All,

Thought I'd give it a few weeks and a few trips to the lake before I posted. I've been lurking since before I made the purchase but I feel like I can officially participate finally!

This is my first boat, it's a 2003 21i with ~400 hours on it. Was always garaged and well cared for. Interior is in excellent shape and it drives well.

I haven't had any major problems with it (other than the fact that when I'm going from hard reverse quickly to neutral I have managed to kill it twice). Having never owned a boat before I've really enjoyed my few early season trips so far (it was 83* and sunny today!). I'm looking forward to getting to know some of the members here and hope to find all the information I'd ever need.

After all my research it seems like this was a great boat and still makes for a decent all around kind of boat. We don't really know what we like to do yet but want to give wakeboarding, wakesurfing and some general tube pulling a try.

Now, I'm off to the mechanical forum to see if I can spot an exploded diagram of the engine and anything I ought to go ahead and change out/do right away, regardless of the previous maintenance history. Any recommendations on that kind of stuff just let me know, it would be greatly appreciated!

Lastly, what would a new post be without a few pictures? From the day we bought it.

Welcome to the site. Nice first post.

Nice boat! I love those things. One of the nicest DDs ever designed. Great colors on yours.

Easy on those shifts. Slow speed maneuvering is a ballet, not a football game.

Plenty of info on maintenance on here. I becomes pretty routine. Filters, fuel, fluids, and impellers. Batteries and bearings too.
You'll get your chance, smart guy.

Nice boat, great first post! Welcome to the family. You've found the best owner website and the greatest bunch of folks on the web.

Agree with the earlier response: Do everything slowly with the transmission. Only shift at idle RPM, let the tranny engage before ramping up the RPM's, etc. Take good care of your equipment and it will take good care of you.

Direct drives are designed to minimize their wake for water skiing. Asking it to give you a surf wave is the opposite of what the hull was designed to do. It can be done, and there are some folks here who can give you great guidance on that, but be prepared to put in some effort.

Glad you found a sweet boat in great condition! Keep us posted on your progress!

My life's journey is not ending up looking pretty, its sliding in broadside, used up, worn out, screaming "What a Ride"
