Help With This Boat Cover, Please

So out of frustration on Saturday, while I was cleaning/waxing the boat I removed all the buttons/snaps for the original cover on the boat. There were quite a few that had either had the screws pulled out of the hull or the button had pulled off the canvas. Basically the cover was falling apart. So I removed the buttons to make waxing the boat easier.
When I bought the boat last summer it cam with two other tops. I haven't really looked at the other one, but I did pull this one out at the end of last season and used it to cover the boat, along with the original snap on cover. This new cover seems real nice, but I'm not sure really how it goes together? Am I supposed to tie all the rope ends together? If I do, the knots won't pull through the rope sleeves. I'd love to be able to pull this thing tight so that I could tow with it on and not have to use the bungee cords, like the covers on the newer boats do. I only have one or two good spots on the trailer to attach the cords to. I may have to drill holes in the trailer to put the hooks in to, but I don't really want to do that. I think I'd like to have a shop remove the velcro and replace it with zippers as well. Any thoughts on this cover?

Now I have 20-30 holes in the boat from the removal of the buttons. What do I do with them? I have a few gel coat repairs I need to make as well. Do I just take it to a shop and have them all filled in and repair the other issues at the same time? Or is this something I should be able to do at home? Any write ups of gel coat repairs on here?

    Thanks guys!

Not sure if that cover is like my Evolution cover in the sense that those dangling ropes are all connected on mine and I can cinch the cover tight around the boat by pulling on those strings from the back.....However on my cover those strings all have SS clasps that make it easy to unclip and reclip when putting them around the tower legs....

Interesting. Do you have a picture of those clasps on yours? Once yours is tight, do you still have to use bungees or something else to hold it on while being towed?

We had the same cover on our 2004 22i. Velcro and all. We had more hooks though than yours. I bought bungee cords for the sides, because the cinch rope that goes around by itself wasnt enough. I always put the ends of the bungee on the trailer, and connected there... otherwise it bangs up against the boat and leaves marks. I also purchased tiny bungees for around the tower connections, as those would never stay secure for me otherwise. It doesnt look like you will have to do that - your cover is a better fit than mine was. Lesssons learned - it's 6 in one, 1/2 dozen in the other when considering if you want to tow with the cover on or not. I have heard for and against (including in this forum). I personally prefer with (and we used to tow 4.5 - 5 hours). The drawback - bungees or ropes didnt matter, they always left some sort of marks on the side of the boat. Usually very faint and easily removed with a good wax/polish... but a pain none-the-less. I always looked at it like this - which mess do you want to clean up, road grime or bungee marks. Hope this helps Unstuck.

Get yourself 2 stainless "s" hooks or something of the like.. And 2 rope ratchets.. On the front tower leg cover splits, tie loops in the rope ends and connect the with the hooks. On the rear splits, tie a loop in one side and use the rope ratchet to to winch it tight with the rear section. Do this on both sides of the boat and you should be good. Can't tell If the ropes are cut in the transom cover split, but if they are, tie them back together..

I don't think I have any up close pics of the clasps....The cover doesn't require bungees or anything to tow with however it also has "hooks" built into it that latch to the rub rail to help snug it down more...

You can probably get more info at evolutioncovers.com...Corey was great to work with and I know he has a 21v template :-)
