i have a 98 pre2100 direct drive. I was dewinterizing my boat today, and i hooked the hose up to it and had the water going and the engine running.and i noticed underneath where the prop shaft goes into the hull a steady stream of water was pouring out. Is this normal?

prop shaft question

End of last season I hit a gravel bar an tore up my prop real good. I was replacing the prop today after getting the boat out of storage and happened to notice the shaft seal is leaking from where it exits the hull (had a huge rain storm so the sump was filled with water from last night). The shaft is not exactly coming out of the seal with the same clearance on either side, so I'm under the assumption the leaking seal and shaft clearance are not normal?

prop shaft question
It shouldn't be leaking back through the through hull seal. You may need to replace the packing, sometimes it just goes bad. Make sure the shaft is straight too.
I just did mine today, it's not hard to do, I did have it easy as my motor is out right now.
If you search you tube you should be able to find a tutorial.
BTW the packing is super cheep, less the 5 bucks!!!
