Hi Guys,
I've been a LONG time reader of this forum (have learned everything I know about boats from here) but I am FINALLY in the market for my first boat and need some help and opinions from the experts. I'm sorry to start another "this vs. that" thread - but the only others I could find were several years old and the boat market (especially the used market) has changed so much since then that I needed some fresh opinions.
Long story short - I am searching for a 2000 or newer, V Drive, wakeboard boat with under 500 hours...for under $20K. Given the insane prices of NEW boats these days, this is not an easy task...as the prices I'm finding today are even higher than 7-8 years ago (on the SAME boats) when I was looking then!
I've found 2 potential options - but need some help deciding.
First is a 2000 Tige 2100v. It's got the Merc 315 HP 5.7 engine (oddly it has the gray engine cover - which makes me wonder if maybe the engine was replaced?), ~370 hours, Perfect Pass, Wakeboard Tower (no speakers, no bimini), TAPS, and a newly redone interior (9 out of 10). Price is around $18K all-in.
Second is a 2003 Moomba Mobius LSV. It's got the 310 HP Indmar Assault (EFI) engine, ~470 hours, Perfect Pass, Tower, Bimini, Auto-Fill Ballast, Wake Plate, and a pretty clean, though not perfect, interior (8 out of 10). Price on this one is $17,000 all-in.
I have found other Tige 2100's - 99's and 00's for less money - as low as $15K - and am wondering if this is a fair price first, and how it compares to the Moomba second. Are there any reliability concerns with a 16 year old Merc 315? I understand the 2100 is a very heavy boat - so the wake is probably the same with the Tige "stock" as with the Moomba with tanks full - but I like the idea of the auto-fill with the Moomba and the ability to upgrade the sacks down the road.
Any help or opinions would be greatly appreciated! As my first boat purchase, I'm terrified to (a) invest in something that's going to rapidly lose value over 3-5 years (as I'm sure I'll want to upgrade after getting into it) and (b) purchase something that I'm going to spend 80% of my time fixing and 20% enjoying.
Thanks for your help!
