Having to buy a new boat from your area dealer puts a lot of people in this exact position. You know you won't get good service but outside dealers are not allowed to sell you a new boat so if you want to order you are forced to use the local dealer. This is the exact position I was in when looking for a Tige. I had to buy a year old hold over to avoid the local dealer. Only problem is that I had to buy what was available. Couldn't pic my options or color. I think Tige should change this and make a dealer earn peoples business instead of the dealer just selling boats because he is the only one in the area. If the dealer has fair pricing and good service they should be able to sell boats and not have people looking at options to avoid them. I almost went with a different brand until I found a year old Tige I was happy with.

I couldn't agree more. Make them earn their customers. I completely believe some dealers feel that you have no other options so take it or leave it. I won't be treated that way especially when I'm spending this kind of money, sorry.
Unfortunately, in cases like this, it drives alot of people to other manufacturers carried by better dealers.

I don't want to get too sidetracked, because this issue is brought up on every brand of discussion board, and has been brought up here a lot. Every manufacturer does this. You can research both sides of the issue, but here are a couple of random thoughts.

        - Tige sells boats to dealers, not to you. Despite our feeling of loyalty to the brand, you buy your boat from your dealer, not Tige.
        - I would expect boats to be cheaper in Hooleyville where a dealer can buy 25 acres of property for what the Metropolis dealer can get for 1 acre. And taxes and other expenses are a lot more in big cities. Tige wants to protect that dealer.
        - You need that local dealer when you have issues. Don't be surprised when they are just too busy to get you in for a few weeks when your boat needs warranty service in July. It isn't fair, but in every business I know, the long term faithful customers get to the front of the line. Life is not fair.
        Be excellent to one another.

Good points talltigeguy... now if I could only find Hooleyville on the map! I want to move there for a cheaper boat!

Like others, I have purchased many boats, snowmobiles, rv's, cars, etc.

I don't look for the ability to only work with a local dealer. It would be nice if it worked out that way but I'll drive 4 or 5 hours to work with an exceptional dealer and I have. Before moving on the lake I would drive 4 hours, 1 way to take my class-a diesel motor home to the dealer I purchased it from for service.
            Why?
They were experts in the industry, knew every detail about the unit I purchased and didn't make me think I needed them more than they needed me. They treated me like a rock star. And many dealers fit in this category. Occasionally you find some that don't.

I want a dealer that knows what they are selling inside and out, has experience with what they are selling, and respects me as the customer. If they don't know the answer to something, say that and work on getting the answer. Don't make something up only for me to find out you were wrong.

Those are my feelings. Maybe others feel differently?

And your right, life isn't "fair". I'll just take my business elseware if I need to...

Cant say I disagree one bit.

I bought out of state from an exceptional dealer for this exact reason and the process has been so unbelievable that I wonder why I even messed with the guy in my state to begin with. Tige has the regional protection for good reason but the dealers who sell the most boats and have the biggest reputations seem to be able to push the boundaries, and for good reason.

The thought of driving 6 hours to have my boat serviced sucks but the thought of having to spend an extra 7k to stay locally and deal with tools was even worse. Some planning and the drive is negligible...

I'm the same way, bikes and sleds, I'd pay a little more (not much, it has to be competetive but def more) for a good dealer that's going to take the time to talk to me and to work with me and who I know is going to get my stuff in and fixed quick without raking me over the coals.

Fortunately my local dealer (about 50 min away) so far seems to be awesome. They only had new in stock and after waiting for some time I found a used 13 R20 with 30 hours. Despite me buying a boat that was not from them the rep gave me his cell number for any time I ever had questions on maintenance or just the boat in general and he replied multiple times within a very short time to everything. I was pleasantly surprised.

I want to order an RZX but my local dealer does not like to budge on price. They'd rather not sell one if they can't make 40 grand. Should I just call around?

The Salt Lake dealer has a used one listed at 125 with the supercharged motor. I don't think that is making 40 grand, but I could be all wrong. It might be a good place to start. Then in the ad he says he can get a NEW one with some options for 120. I would assume the primary reason a new one would be cheaper is because of the supercharged motor, which is a huge expensive upgrade.

Thanks man. Yeah here in Texas we don't need the supercharged motor like higher elevations will.

the dealers can get themselves into a mess for selling out of territory, Tige is pretty loyal to their dealers and we can get into a pretty big headache for selling out of territory.
